Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a beautiful thoughtful poem that makes its point by referencing a time and leader who was assassinated during the worst divide in this country, and his words that echo now, as some would want civil war again. It circles back to this point and his words. Thanks!

I feel your frustration but from the other side.

You may have already forgotten the Portland riots, the fires, the destruction of private businesses, the wild retail snatch and grab still going on today. Weak to no prosecution of clearly guilty criminals from larceny all the way to homicide. The bold physical attacks on seniors in broad daylight. The streets of San Fransisco littered with the waste of the homeless. The lawlessness that is so rampant in Chicago, New York and other large American cities. Antifa shamelessly justifying their actions on "the big lie." Black Lives Matter officers pocketing millions of dollars from contributors to feed their own greed. Illegally protesting in front of Supreme Court Justices homes, assassination attempt on a Supreme Court Justice, the devastating and embarrassing withdrawal from Afghanistan, the loss of 35 billion dollars' worth of military equipment due to ill directed judgment calls. the missing baby formula, gas prices four times as high as they were during the "reign" of our "autocratic dictator" the shameless three-year investigation into a nothing Russia collusion only to find out it was the ones doing the investigating who were guilty, shutting down US oil pipelines only to beg for oil from our enemies. The cackling Vice President and the stumbling, forgetful, near senile, President.

Record low unemployment. Record low black, Hispanic and women unemployment. First increase in workforce participation in decades. Five Middle East Peace Deals. An improved trade agreement with our North American neighbors. Shortened wait times at the V.A. and improved GI benefits. No war in Ukraine. Actual peaceful discussion and meeting with North Korea. Cut red tape to provide a vaccine for a deadly pandemic in a third of the time expected. Seven million Americans off food stamps. A 40% increase in net worth for the bottom 50% of households. Small business optimism at a 35-year high. The most rapid GDP growth ever recorded. 9,000 opportunity zones created. Regular, consistent and substantive Press Conferences. Consolidation of Black College funding so they would not have to re-apply every single year. Elimination of useless regulations. Reduced the cost of regulatory compliance by $50 Billion. The Navigable Waters Protection Act. Executive order to buy American and hire American. Doubled the cap on the number of American cars that can be imported into South Korea. China tariffs greatly increased to reduce their flooding our markets. Putting thousands of coal workers back to work to fuel our energy industry. First time Israeli embassy in Jerusalem built at a fraction of the estimated cost, a fraction!

I could go on, but I think you get the point. I think you should brush up a little on your immediate history and current events before you proclaim things like this.

Yeah, he was a brash, big mouth braggard, but he got the job done.

I beg to differ, recall the unrest he caused among allied nations, the love between him and autocrats, and the hiding of the truth about the pandemic. Not to mention his shamelessness concerning his abuse of 23 women. His inattention to climate change. Oh, I forgot, the over 7,000 lies told to the American people. According to a C-SPAN survey (June 2021) historians rank Trump among worst presidents in US history. His rank 41st out of 44 presidents. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on the competency of Trump.

    Certainly.

I don't think my full reply went through the last time. What I wanted to say is that differences in opinion and our right to have them is what makes America, America. Regardless of who is President.

I probably got a little too huffy in my response and I apologize for that. Seriously I do. It's just that some things, particularly in politics and religion, people, like me, take far too seriously.

I do understand your position. I know he can be a jerk. But I love the orange devil, so I had to speak my piece. In retrospect, I should not have gotten so detailed and again, for that I apologize.

    We good?

I sincerely hope our differences can be just that, differences in opinion. Everybody has one so everybody can;'t possibly be right. It sjust one of those things.

my sadness grows, also, but it is the pitiful, weak, unAmercan administration in power - the President of which has no business being in power that is ruining this country. How can you listen to the President's bumbling - he can't even read the notes in front of him and the lies he spews about Pres. Trump, who may have been too boastful, but everything he did was for America. Biden has done nothing but make us a pitiful laughingstock. He has wide open borders letting criminals, human traffickers, drugs, you name it in by the millions. What kind of President does that? His primary duty is the protection of this country. And Kamalahaha? surely you cannot see a spark of intelligence there.
I know you have your right to your opinion, but I cannot understand your loyalty to Biden and crew. If you are interested I'd love to know one, just one good thing he has done for this country.
The shame in the past election was not Trump's, but Soros and crew who stole it for Biden. with the help of the biased press, of course.

Thank you for evaluating based upon the writing and not on our differing political position. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. To me, Trump was the worst president the country ever had. First, he failed to put the national-security interests of the United States ahead of his own political needs. Second, in the face of a killing pandemic, he was derelict, unable or unwilling to tell the truth about the danger, nor did he gather the needed resources to save lives while actively encouraging public behavior that spread the disease. And third, he refused to concede defeat after losing by seven million votes and instead instigated an insurrection, in sighting a mob to storm the Capitol. Joe may not articulate as well as you may like. He had a stuttering problem as a young person but at least he is not a liar.

well, as you can see I totally disagree and I judged your writing by the lack of real facts.

I don't live in America, but from the outside looking in I heartily concur with all the sentiments expressed in your poem. 'An egotistic leader who lies and defies the law' has stirred up such outrageous behaviour with fear, intimidation, retaliation and disinformation
Such are the weapons of an autocratic dictator.'
Hear hear. Enough said.

Thank you, LisaMay. I don't think I would have ever said those things before Trump. Thanks for your read and review.

I guess the problem is, many of those behind the insurrection believe they are defending democracy - they are the 'well-regulated militia' in place to protect the freedom of the state.

I'm not saying I agree with them, I might add, just that belief runs high, and if two sides of an argument both fundamentally believe they are in the right, there will never be agreement, or likely even compromise.

We've seen the same polarising of opinions here in the UK, with the Brexit vote being almost 50/50 and people still bitterly debating it now, to the point nobody will ever change their minds.

What interests me in terms of the USA, is not so much that Trump got into power (when your choice is one or the other party, you may well vote for your party even if you don't agree with the choice of candidate). What fascinates me is that he was ever chosen as the Republican candidate in the first place. I know money talks, but surely there are limits when we're talking about electing a lunatic into a position of nuclear power...

Lol, I'll stop now before I bore you. This was a very well written piece :-)

Thank you for your well conceived feedback. In my heart, I know you are correct about the actions of people who strongly believe they are right. But the insurrection was not carried out by a well-regulated militia, but by the brainwashed followers of a defeated president who wished to stay in power regardless of the outcome of a fair election did not carry the insurrection out. It was a coup that luckily failed. Unfortunately, his leadership has opened the soft underbelly of the Republican party, which is white supremacy that is now rearing its ugly head in many of our southern states.

There is no democracy under a socialist government in my mind as this regime is all about control of the people and not the freedom. Your articulate write brings home some truth about what is happening in America, I feel for you guys just now, love Dolly x
