Lisa,
This is a very touching poem with which all animal lovers can identify. Somehow it's a profound sadness we experience, especially when someone tells us, "it's just a dog/cat."
Excellent poem, Lisa.
Best wishes,
Cindy

I would never minimise anyone's grief over the loss of a pet. Being told "it's just a dog/cat" is heartless. A previous partner said that to me once and his lack of empathy was the beginning of the end for us.

Thank you, Lisa. I share your feelings. When a date of mine, kicked my dog away from him (she was begging him for afffection?probably figured she ?had? to befriend him because I put up with him, I broke it off. That was my heart he was rejecting. It hallened in 89 and I still remember it vividly. Mindy wasn?t hurt, and I found a man with a Siamese cat who really loved my dog!
Thank you for your comment!

What a sweet and gentle poem LisaMay.
And who hasn't lost a beloved pet/companion.
This brings back distant memories (and some not distant enough to still tug at my heart).

Whew! I'm glad you and Lily are fine. But I'm sure you are missing your other lovely kitty before Lily. We don't ever stop missing those pets that were so close to us. Best wishes in the contest!

Yes, I can certainly identify with this beautiful short piece. It's a gem. Tom H has recently lost his much-loved dog and is bereft too. The ache is deep, and on-going. Thanks for sharing.

I wrote this after reading Tom's story about his recent loss. So sad for him to have to make the decision not to have another pet due to advancing age and arthritis.

The author's words are meaningful, sad, descriptive and creative. Thank
you so much for the author's notes - a lovely poem for those who have
lost a pet. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork goes well
with the words and theme of this poem.

They command a special place in our hearts and their memories lingerbut I often wonder about those who lose their beloved human. Have they any understanding what has happened or do they just feel abandoned?

They probably just feel abandoned... or maybe they do have an idea about death - witness those animals who lie on their deceased human's grave mourning their departure (or wondering why dinner is taking so long).

We've had 12 cats and 4 dogs, all except a couple live long lives, we miss and loved all of them, but we consigned them to the past without grieving too much, beautifully written my friend Jenny,, blessings Roy

These are sad words with much grief within them and this is how people feel when they lose their pet as they become part of the family and seeing them everyday brings us joy and suddenly when they die it leaves us feeling empty, a poignant 3 line poem Lisa, love Dolly x

Hello Lisa May :)
It's the worst part of owning a pet, the inevitable losing of them.
I enjoyed reading your three line poem, which is in excellent form for the contest. Good Luck!
Best wishes as always, Debra
