Wow, yes! This is so good!

I had two wonderful cats, Toula and Annabelle.

Correction. They chose me as their human and I was honored they allowed me to live with them...

They trained me very well! A swish of a tail meant "give me space"---

A padded paw " swipe" meant "Time to cuddle!"

They've both passed .

Not before they saved my life!

True story: About eight years in, Toula began a new habit of leaping on my chest in the wee hours of the mornings and "kneading"--until I eventually repositioned her by sweeping or sliding my hand between her body and mine...

After about two weeks of this I was sleep deprived and grumpy!

Toula and Annabelle apparently held a feline conference because as soon as I "swept" Toula off, Annabelle would take over!

Within days of this tag team kneading, I was surprised that Toula (inadvertently?) clawed my left breast through my nightgown.

Unhappily, I got up and grabbed peroxide and a cotton ball to cleanse the "wound."

I began cleaning the area...

Wait.

I felt a tiny "lump."

I swallowed my fear, but I knew.

Next day I called my doctor...had a mammogram before sunset and a needle biopsy the next day.

Toula and Annabelle were "kneading" breast cancer.

If not for them I never would have noticed such a small tumor.

Oh, there was surgery, chemo, radiation.

And survival.

So you keep loving up on Lily!

I'm cancer free.

Karenina

Oh my goodness, what a story. I've heard of dogs that can detect cancer, but to have your own cats help you out is remarkable. So glad it had a good outcome eventually.

More than you needed in a review, I know! After reading "Lily" I just had to share!

I appreciate your sharing... some reviewers struggle to make the 140 character minimum.

Hmmm. I'm much too verbose to have THAT issue!

Lily writes an adorable tale. Her owner seems quite a good pet to have and they share a special relationship. This great little tale is enjoyable and well written, very imaginative. Evi

That's a good one, Lily. I'm Sam - Paul's granddog. I write to Sunny sometimes, too. You have done a great job with this piece. I think you and Wendy are going to be battling it out in the contest. I've got to get off the computer. I think I hear Paul coming.

Hi Sam. Thanks for your feedback about this piece - although I guess you'd prefer some other feed.

This was an adorable take on the "tell us about your pet" prompt. Lily is blessed to have adopted you. I hope you two have a long, happy, healthy life together. Thanks for sharing!

I do feel blessed that Lily adopted me to be her human pet. Thank you for your good wishes.

Hi Lisa,
I love this,
"When I adopted her, I was a scaredy-cat, the runt of the litter getting bullied by my siblings." ... that's so true. We think we've adopted our cats, but it's definitely the other way around. They are the bosses. They do what they want. That includes jumping up on the kitchen counter to sample whatever is left uncovered... roast turkey, cinnamon buns, or bacon.
and this,
"... like when I put my bum in her face or puke on the carpet." ... Are you hiding in our closet? We spend big bucks on quality cat food. Not "Friskies or I AMS". And every other night, one of our three cats barfs on the rug! And it (was) a good rug, too... from India! Maybe I should say "Outia"!
Yeah, those cat bums, tail up in the air! "Here, look!"
They chew on my wife's houseplants, and that usually makes them sick, too.
And they wake us up at 4am- 5am. It's always so hard to get back to sleep! Yes, they are persistent! Ray-Ray won't stop meowing until he gets favorable results.
I especially like the way that "Lily" calls LisaMay her "pet"...
"During the day, LisaMay is a free-range pet and comes and goes as she pleases."
and,
"LisaMay gets a bit bossy sometimes, but I would hate hate hate to lose her. I think I should get her microchipped, just in case." ...that's so funny!
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thanks for your review, Kimbob. I really enjoyed reading about the similarities in your household that your cats inflict on you.

This is so cute. The cat reads the prompt for the contest, thinks she's in charge, and tells the story about her pet human. Lily, your human taught you well. Your grammar is perfect and you've written a great story. I wish you well in the contest.

I read a book that said cats could paint, so I thought to myself, why not give writing a try too? LisaMay encourages my creativity - she makes a great pet, but it's just as well she never tries to sit on MY knee.

Lily, you're adorable, and write a very lovely story.
Yes, you should be a responsible pet owner and have your pet microchipped. Especially if she is free-range. They've been known to wander. :)

This story, Loving Companions, is the best. I can see why Lily gets so much time on-line. She really has her relationship sized up well. Having a reliable and loving pet is important for a cat.

Oh this is very clever. Any cat owner knows exactly what Lily is talking about. I chuckled out loud when Lily said LisaMay is a free-range pet! I'm happy to know that Lily has a wonderful owner who loves her very much, even if she does puke on the carpet sometimes!

I really appreciate the high rating you gave my story! LisaMay got a bit jealous so she hid my toys for a while as a joke.
