Hello Lisa,
This is an marvelous poem with excellent rhymes
and a strong theme that is much needed in this stressful world.
We are indeed all in this together, and together we can all see a way though
when we help each other..
Well done.
Best wishes and good luck in the contest.
Robert

There are lots of great lines here, but my favourite is the last. So many people nowadays say things like: "Life's what you make it", but sometimes life's just out of our control, through no fault of ours. I think it's a compassionate way of looking at depression - to see a person who's struggling because life hasn't worked out and who needs support.

This is such an excellent, expressive poem. You have vividly described the mindset of one who feels she's "going down for the third time" and needs lifting up.

Life can throw us a hard ball at times and some people have a hard time and we should always have some empathy for others. A well rhymed and metered writ Lisa, albeit sad, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Lisa May helps along the way and says it well in this composition that the better way to rid yourself of turmoil is to be involved in service work which is so rewarding the troubled one is lifted from their mire.

    Thanks for your comments Tom.
I help a lot with volunteering - I agree it is very rewarding, but sometimes can feel overwhelming when there is so much to do and not enough other volunteers.

When I hear someone say unkind things about another persons behavior I wonder who gave them the right to judge? We can find many forms of pain in this world if we just listen and reach out with tenderness and understanding to behavior we don't understand. That person is probably in real pain and is reaching out for help. Well done, Lisa. Nancy:)

You have a great story, and the picture goes hand in hand. It is like being in prison or jail. The only difference is there are doors unlocked, but you can not get the strength to walk past them. Many will relate to this one. Thank you for sharing.

LisaMay,

This is a brilliant piece on the horrible effects of depression. I had no idea you knew anything about it. But either you or someone near you certainly does. I'm so sorry. But you have used the most clever phrases to describe the issue! And ending by reminding folks to reach out is just right. Thank you!

Thanks for bestowing such a high rating on this one Robyn! It cheered me up. Yes, I sink a bit low at times - I wouldn't call it depression, just sick of having to run my entire life and make all my decisions myself. Easier to stay in bed and read a book some days, not have a shower, not answer the phone. It's just me. I always look like I'm coping and everyone else has their own problems anyway or too busy with their families.

Maybe we could switch lives for a day or two a week. Mine is FILLED with constant STIMULATION - kids, activity, kids, people, stuff, pregnant girl who complains constantly (she's the only person who's ever been pregnant, btw - it's a medical miracle!), on and on!) Your silence and solitude sound a bit heavenly...

Absolutely brilliant in rhyme and message. We often are envious of the "perfect" people, not taking the time to realize that it may be a mask.
Using cliches like half full, riding high, and bats in the belfry draws your reader into the familiar. Terms they use and hear often without thought.
Here is my last six.
Best wishes,
Mary

Lisa,
This is such an awesome poem! Your rhyme is perfect, and you purposely use cliches to a positive effect. Very nice!

I am the woman you're talking about in the poem. Sometimes, anyway.

You give great advice in the last stanza. I, myself, find those who've been profoundly hurt in life make the best counselors and listeners.
Blessings and good luck.
Cindy

We never know what's going on in others' lives, so we should be kind to everyone. Thank you for your empathy - I initially wrote this poem in first-person because it echoes my life sometimes, just as you picked up how you could be the person in the poem.
