My goodness. What a horror. Tapas? Not for me now. My memory of your very imaginative story has probably lodged in there for ever. A very creative and different approach to the topic - and crafted with skill. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you, Wendy :-). This was a bit of fun to write and got me out of 'poet head' which was helpful. I always try to approach a prompt from an unexpected angel, with varying success!

You displayed a very dark humour here, to create a fantastic story. I don't think the idea is particularly original, but your execution of it was wonderful.

Thank you, Kate, for the review and the prompt that inspired it. I grant it's not a new idea, but it was certainly fun to write :-)

Well you know, at a meal like that, it's always better to have a lot of sauce...At first I thought it was offal, but then I understood by the end, what exactly was the Spanish delicacy, shall we say. I did read on the edge of my seat, part curiosity, and horrified at the intrigue. So I will say you built suspense, reeled in the gore, and finished in exquisite taste. A great read, awesome title, superb imagination and magnetism. I will think twice now about dinner invitations...All the best

Thank you :-). I had fun with this and did my best to not be too explicit. I'm really glad you enjoyed the read!

Oh, dear gastronomical horror! Not at all sure what YOU were drinking before coming upon this prompt, but I know what I will NOT Be eating, ever again! You turned this prompt upside down and shook mightily...

So well written! You gave me the clues. Images of Hopkins lingered just beyond my sensitive stomach... Fortunately, the laughter mitigated the urge to purge!

How is anyone going to top this entry?

Yew. and Yay!

Thank you so much :-). This started out a little more normal, although I was looking for an angle that came quickly once I started writing. I do so love to subvert prompt expectations!

    Normal is so pedestrian!

Give me the twist and go heavy on the descriptions!

The theme of this prompt hardly seemed exciting, but you have addressed it in an irresistible genre for me, dropping lots of 'delicious' clues along the way! It's so Poirot and Hastings updated to include Anthony Hopkins! This has to be a 6-star because I couldn't read fast enough, and then I had to read it again. Ick! The ear-ring stud back is rather implausible, but that goes perfectly with the territory! Fun FUN fun read! Thanks!

You'll note I never said the piercing was from the ear ;-). It was originally going to be a fingernail, but I thought that was a bit cliche and wouldn't have identified the victim.

I couldn't resist turning this prompt on its head - meeting the brief, but in a hopefully unexpected way. I'm thrilled you enjoyed it :-)

Oh my!! Where are Earth did this one come from? I know you're creative, but still. Anyway, it's very good writing. One summer I studied Spanish Language and Culture at the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain. One of the favorite meals to serve in the cafeteria of our dormitory was paella. Now, I happen to like paella made here in Texas by my Mexican friends, but in Spain, the it still had chicken feet and beaks in it. I wasn't so fond of it.

Eek, yes that would definitely put me off! This story started as a genuine scene but very quickly devolved into something else, lol. I then had to go back and made it a little more off-key from the start. I'm glad you 'liked' it :-)

This was disturbing on so many levels, but it was a good story and you told it well. Thank you so much for choosing to share this here, and best wishes to you.

Hehe, thank you :-). It started out a straight donner scene, but then I saw the opportunity for something a little different!

I don't think I would eat tapas in a million, particularly at that place, but I love the fingers down the throat at the end, the door heaved open as the police entered, along with our hero's stomach, I wonder they will recover, excellent post, good luck blessings Roy

I'm glad this was fiction, I'm still not certain if I will eat tapas again, and I used to enjoy them!!! LOL! You have a wicket imagination, Mike. I doubt anyone can beat this entry. I don't think I'll use the recipe, but the patatas bravas I really do love. We had them a lot when we lived in Spain, and still make them now we're back home. Well done, again. Good luck! Sandra

Thanks, Sandra :-). I'm not sure this is what Kate had in mind when she created the contest, but I can't resist an opportunity to subvert expectations. I am a huge fan of tapas, so I hope I don't think about this story next time I go to eat it!

Well, the people in the diner certainly enjoyed them, so it should count! 😂

Oooh, I'm gagging too... choking on the snout to tail piercing evidence. You made my mouth water with all the culinary descriptions and then threw in a mystery murder... excellent storytelling.

(You possibly need 2 cap C's here): We all followed suit. "To consumption club!"

Eagle eye! Thanks so much - duly fixed. I wasn't sure where I was going when I started writing this, but my brain found its grim direction pretty quickly!
