I can relate. In my head, I am young and thin. In the mirror, not so much. Thank you so much for choosing to share this poem here, and best wishes to you.

Oh Barbara, this poem resonates with a deep meaning and emotion. Your character portrays the thoughts a lot of us have about aging and changes we make as we grow older. Well written!

Wow, I have the same problem, I look and wonder, "Who is that Old Man?"
However, I am fortunate to have good health(so far!) and while I am able to still do a lot of things;
put in the garden,
do the weed-eating
mow the lawns
fix leaks in the 4 watering systems
maintain an obstinate attitude
That's about it!

Hello LovNPeace, Barbara, good descriptive writing. Of special note:
where is my image
(B, it's shining inside your heart. You just have to look a little closer
'cause we all see it.)
Yes, aging is unfair, but the knowledge that comes with it is priceless ... just like you. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

I like that this can be interpreter many times - somebody aged beyond their self image, a sad reflection after disfigurement, or somebody whose own actions have alienated them from themselves. Beautifully written.

There is beauty of a different kind in a face that bears the brushstrokes of a life well-lived. It is a more enduring form of beauty than the blank canvas of youth.

I feel exactly the same, who is that person staring back at me? Youth is gone and the face sags into an abyss! All we can do is know that inside we are still 16, a poignant write Barbara, love Dolly x

Hi there,
I liked this piece. It's sort of formatted like a senryu with the short staccato lines. It also speaks a universal truth which most of us can relate to.
I don't really get it in the mirror though, more over when looking at old photos and folk say 'that's not you!'
Nice one

Barbara, This is a very well written short poem about the unfairness of aging. You used very good descriptive words. When we look in the mirror sometimes we don't see our younger self any longer. Thanks for sharing. love and blessings, Teri
