You captured a lovely rhythm in this poem and I enjoyed the end rhymes and sentiments. It is sad that we have to have soldiers at all but armies have been formed for centuries to protect our freedom. Nothing changes as we grieve for our soldiers, a poignant write Lisa, love Dolly x

A very powerful and emotional poem honoring those who serve and bear the burden of following orders to fight wars. They pay a heavy price that cannot be repaid.
Best wishes,
Mary

You can be proud of your country's military in WW2 as well. They fought with distinction in the desert war and in the war east - their own back yard. I believe there were Australians and New Zealanders involved in the Battle of Britain as well.

This sounded more like an American, but then I saw your name there I was surprised, there's no blame on the young men or women that serve, but I hate war, there's really only a couple of wars that were justified, beautifully written however, blessings Roy

I had to imagine I was American to write this. I am a pacifist and don't personally know anyone who has served in the military. I do feel we should support Ukraine.
-
I believe more people are going to die of starvation indirectly because of Ukraine,
-
Yes, there'll be worldwide repercussions.
-
I find it wearying

Strong words and finely expressed emotions. I think people often support (or don't) the military without thinking about the individual experience of soldiers, and what it means to them to be in the thick of it. I very much enjoyed your piece.

Thanks for your comments. I had to imagine I was American to write this. I live in New Zealand and our military are more known for peace-keeping and humanitarian deployments. I personally don't know anyone who serves in the military forces.

Likewise, living in the UK - I think our American cousins have a particular bond with the military (and guns, of course, but that's another discussion).

I love the title, Staunch and with Valor! The message is clear and concise. The theme is valuable and noteworthy. Love of the flag and country is always a great thing to possess. We need to prove our might when enemies come forward to fight. I grew up in a military family with my father an officer in the Air Force. I was raised to love the flag and country.
Proud citizens are always needed to back our men and women in the armed forces.
Thanks for sharing your valor and loyalty to your country. It is a wonderful thing to see!

Sometimes I wish I lived in New Zealand! I love that your military is for peacekeeping and humanitarian deeds.
Yet I am still glad I live in the United States!
Have a wonderful day,
Jesse

Yes, the personal cost is immense, and often the young men do not realise just how far-reaching the effects of war are or can be. You have paid a great tribute to their character and courage in a well written poem. Well done, and very best wishes for your entry.

Yes, same here. They tend to glorify the military. I know one who has joined the army but I think his role will be cyber security.
-
It seems to be part of that ingrained gun culture over there.

Strong rhymes here, LisaMay as a strong uplifting poem merits. I particularly liked the words that spoke of personal effort and sacrifice, such as:
On shoulders weighed down
with heavy demands

I had to imagine I was American to write this, where these sentiments seem more uppermost than here in New Zealand, where our military are more known for peace-keeping and humanitarian deployments. I personally don't know anyone who serves in the military forces, whereas in America, judging by poems and stories I've read on FanStory, probably everyone has some connection with military personnel.
