This is a great pep talk for all of the folks out there who may want to give a salute to their local veteran or active-duty soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine. Ooh-rah!

You did a great job with your informative post, Earl.
I enjoyed reading it and agree with everything you
wrote. I like how you bolded the word respect. The
way you explained what the individuals in each branch
are called was explained well. I like the ideas you gave
to show respect.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

All gave some, some gave all. That song is an eye opener if you listen to the words. Not only do the Men and Women who served deserve our thanks, but the families also sacrificed as well. Good Job Earl. Good Luck. Nancy:)

This is a well written post and it clears up some things I didn't know. I've never really been aware of this day before, and was shocked to realize it had been about since 1949, I thought Memorial Day was the only holiday in May. My husband was a soldier during the Korean War and I'm not sure he was aware of it. Is it getting more attention this year for some reason? I do recognize the sacrifices that servicemen make to our country and would like to respect them properly.

Nicely said, Bro. I agree with every word. I wear my cap when going to the VA and sometimes when I fail to snatch another off the rack. I think you and I understand we just did our job, nothing more or less.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful reminder. My son enlisted in the Marines before he even got out of high school, and that was 30 years ago, but he still calls hisself a Marine. He was also in the Army, but the Marines have had him from the start. You did a great job. Shirley

What a beautifully thoughtful post. I have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone serving in the armed forces. It takes a very special person to put there life on the line for our freedoms. This is well written and your respect comes shining through. Thanks for sharing.

What a great message, Earl! And I know you served your country in this way, so a big thanks to you. You are so right that more than the thanks, we can do things like give care package, but most of all be worthy citizens. Hope you do well in the contest!

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. I enjoyed reading. Especially with the mess the US is in now, our military needs to know people still care for those fighting for our freedom.

We have similar distinctions In Britain, and Australia, the commandos, and the SAS, are similar in that they do special assignments, like working operationally behind enemy lines, but special forces, toughly and highly trained, then of course infantry, and then auxiliary personnel, well done Earl, Blessings Roy
