Nice tribute to your father. I can identify with this. I was always at work, but today I have a great relationship with my two sons. I got lucky and had a great wife to fill in for me.

A wonderful tribute to your father Jaybird. He loved his family and his actions showed that love. After all, the word love is a verb and a verb requires action.

Well done
Blessings

I enjoyed this poem. It's obvious you think closely about your rhyme scheme because it doesn't seem forced. If you don't mind, why did you elect to end this sweet poem by saying love would not light the darkest night?
Speaking of love is kind and right-
But 'twill not light the darkest night.

Thank you for sharing.

This is a great tribute to your father. So glad you knew he loved you by the way he cared for you, even though he did not put it into words. It is great to hear the words, "I love you" but actions do speak louder than words.

jaybird1,
Yes, actions speak louder than words. Sometimes, we can see or hear the words embedded in the action. However, to actually experience the words spoken to us is an indelible note softly etched into the heart.
Love is a fire that can burn through the darkest night.

Beautifully said! Words can be empty if there are no actions to back it up. You were fortunate as I was that we had parents who truly loved and knew what it meant. We could never be poor for we had love.

Hi Jay bird,
My dad is much the same. He refuses to say the words, but I have always felt loved by him. I love your poem. A nice remembrance of your father.

--An awesome poem with a great presentation and imagery. It flows well with beautifully descriptive words that paint a clear poetic vision.

--The form is well executed.

--The theme of Father's love is moving.

--What I like best is that you still remember him fondly.
