Hi Sharon, LOL my sweet friend...my husband passed
and I used to love going to the casino's...he was a railroad engineer...and he made the money...

we were going when they had to move on water...the biggest pot I ever won was $1800.00 dollars...and $500.00 a couple
hits later...on the same machine...the Wild Cherry's...

my sister-in-law won $25,000.00 on one Christmas day...but her and her husband were big money gamblers...I used to tell her I could see sparks fly when she put her money in...

but sense Bobby's passing...I don't go like I used to...
I still consider myself addicted...because if I had the money...I would go...

when I go now...I don't spend much...but if I lose...
I get mad at myself...one day I will be able to go out more than I can now...sigh...

I saw your poem sweet girl...and had to review it...
made me laugh...but I'm so glad I'm not alone out here...

I love your poem you...and yes...I totally relate...nice picture of me...very well written...love you...Linda xxoo

Hey! How did you know exactly how it works for me? I feel as if you described my Casino adventures to a 't'.

I love taking a day to get lost in fantasyland. I've been doing it for many years and haven't dialed that 800 number yet... lol I set limit before I go -- add a few bucks in an 'emergency' fund and that's it. Nothing in excess of that.

Congrats on the contest win. ann

"Can anybody else out there relate?" Oh, yes! I grew up in Reno and once I turned 21 I could not pass up a casino at night. I never played the slots, but adored the crap table. Your poem brings back ALL the ways I was tempted. I especially like your humor and how you mock yourself. Congrats on your win! Rod

A delightful and oh so true poem. I stay away from casinos as I know I have no willpower with the slots. I love the whistles and bells. I never win!

This temptation poem, Casino Fever, brings that progressive spending to the point of ruin. Like alcoholism, no one seeks help until they have literally lost everything.

You likely are not Scottish. I must have some of their DNA because I went to a casino once with $25 my limit. I watched one dude drop $3000 in five minutes of six hands of blackjack and another two on baccarat. We left knowing how addicting gambling might be wasn't in our blood.

I actually have some Scottish and Irish blood in me, I'm happy to say. My mom was British, born and raised in England. Thank goodness I don't usually have enough money to gamble on a regular basis. Thanks so much for this great review. :)

Oh yes, somebody out here can relate. That's why I am so thankful there are no casinos in my backyard. I would have to drive at least 100 miles to get to one. I have been and I know exactly what you speak of. It is a tremendous temptation but can be so destructive.

Very descriptive, good job

Thank you, I appreciate this great review. We actually have a casino in downtown Duluth, Mn and another only 30 miles away...very tempting! I hope you have a wonderful evening. :)

You my dear are getting these six stars because millions of people can relate.
My husband and I traveled a lot before Covid, as we went all over the country and usually tried to stay at the casino's and he would go for a while, loved the buffets and then go to bed, where I would be lucky if I made it by midnight. I have
Everythingaholic tendency. And so I quit drinking and smoking, addictive opioids that my doctors made me go on because of painful disease called Lupus. So I quit all that, and during Covid couldn't go to casinos. Which I know it is wrong, as I am a Christian, but I didn't ask to have this sickness. so I've been asking God for help. And I discovered some really cool apps that really don't cost much money, as you can get a million dollars or whatever for $20. or so. We play them on the iPads and both of us completely lost our craving for casinos. Maybe I can help you out, as you truly told my story, except for us it was nothing to each lose a couple hundred. And although I sometimes won a couple grand. They got it back
eventually. However now that I am having so much fun on FanStrory, I don't even have time for the casino games........Now I am addicted to writing my poetry full time, and fellowship with so many wonderful authors here. However I think this was my answer to my prayer. So I am here if you ever need a friend. Believe me I understand completely!!!!!!!!!!!! Great job on your poem!!

A very well-written poem, and it shows well the various steps of addiction - and temptation. Just this once ... doing it time and again, knowing you won't stick to the limit. Best wishes for your very good entry, well --rhymed and smooth-flowing.

Great job with this, mystery writer. You've told a great (presumably auto?) biographical story here, covering a great deal of distance in just a few lines. You've described a gambling addiction very well. I know we're probably all tired of talking about COVID, but fun fact, though gambling initially went down in 2020, it experienced a boom like never before in 2021. So when you ask if anyone can "relate", I would wager (pun intended) that they can! Well done here - good narrative, good connection with the audience, good paired image. Best of luck in the contest!
