The author's words made me smile, are descriptive, clear and
creative. I thought about how when I have the day planned and
it rains and interferes with my plans. We have no control! The
poem flows and connects well. The artwork is awesome and
compliments these words. Have a great weekend!....Maria

Maybe you didn't want to mow the grass. Anyway, rain is a good excuse for putting it off. If they were weak attempts, that probably means you would be glad to put it off. The narrator really lets us know the narrator's attitude about mowing the lawn. Best of luck in the contest. judi

Thank you, Judi, for giving this a look. I mow a couple acres here and when I get behind the grass looks like alfalfa.
-
You're welcome. That's a lot of mowing. I've heard of people getting goats to take care of the "alfalfa." We pay a hefty maintenance to have lawn work taken care of. judi

I remember those mowers. They weighed a ton. Even after buying a more modern gas-powered mower, my mother kept the old one for years. Good luck in the contest.

I remember having to mow with one of those push mowers as a kid. Trust me rain would not have prevented my dad from sending me out to mow. Thanks for sharing.

I recall the process of lifting the mower up to the workbench and filing each blade to sharpness. Then, sharpening the sling blade with a whet stone and whipping the long grass for a half hour. Mowing followed that.

You should do a d##m plant poem.

Lol. Well, there's your excuse. The grass lives to see another day. You won't be able to mow till the soil dries out or you'll leave tracks. You should have about a week of respite. Fun one.

If I wait a week I?ll need a hay baler.

Clever use of near rhyme with rained, today; flood, front; damn grass. Alliteration with (th)warting, weak; flooding, front. "weak attempts" tells us the narrator's true feelings about that chore.

Great excuse Bill for not cutting your lawn. However, what will you tomorrow in sunny 80 degrees weather ? LOL
I remember mowing the lawn with that mower as a teenager. Sometimes, My Dad would give me a break because my allergies would kick up. It was better when it had not rained the day before because the pollen would blossom in my nose (-;

Well, I would say the grass can wait another day, Bill.
Your contest entry read well. The syllable count is
correct per line. I like the image and the color scheme.
Rain, hmm. . . 104* with 3% humidity and wind of 17mph here.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan
