What an amazing story! (Most birth mothers love their children and make the ultimate sacrifice to give them a better life.) The poet states that the mother wanted to abort... and yet, we know she didn't. That must have taken courage, if not love. Still, the poet says the child was unwanted. This part is confusing to me. Maybe more information would help the story. Thank you for sharing your happy successful adoption story! It is a truly wonderful story. Many congratulations to you and yours.

There are 2 mothers in the story - the birth mother who didn't want the child and tried to abort (she told me so herself when I met her when I was 45), and the other adoptive mother (and father) who provided my loving upbringing.

Could you clarify your bit about something taking courage? What took courage? To not abort me? It wasn't for lack of trying, she genuinely tried to get rid of me.

You were meant to be! Somehow the angels protected you and you were born to the family that wanted you! That is a life to be celebrated! Thank you for the extra info on your birth mother. I imagine that was hard to hear, but you are very strong and maybe we?re already at peace. I sense you are now. Beautiful!

I never harboured any animosity towards my birth mother - she did what she felt she had to do at the time. People make their own choices then have to live with them. I also met 3 half-sisters and they were envious of me for being adopted.

It is even more complicated - birth mother didn't raise those other 3 daughters either.

That sounds like a whole memoir could be written! Thank you again for sharing these bits. Very moving stuff!

I started one, and some bits have been put here already as poems or brief stories, but it all feels too personal to be put together as a whole piece.

That's completely understandable. (The story is yours for whatever you choose.) You have may things to draw from for a wide variety. You can write whatever feels right!

Thanks for sharing this moving story. And from all you have written about your family, you were chosen and born not of the body but of the hearts of your real mother and father who adopted you. Great message to remember the sacredness of life.

That's a lovely way to put it dear Helen - 'chosen and born not of the body but of the hearts of your real mother and father'. It feels so true.

This is such a sweet, lovely poem. It's good to know that abortion isn't the only option to someone who finds themselves with an unwanted pregnancy. Adoption can be beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Wow thanks so much for sharing this, especially during this time in this country's history. So happy too that your life wasn't taken but preserved. Such a great piece.

As the say, anyone can be a mother or a father, but children need a mum and a dad, not a someone who births them and leaves. And yet it's so hard to adopt a child, and so many worthy parents waiting to adopt. Beautifully written my friend, well done excellent rhyming and writing, blessings Roy

Thanks Roy. Abortion is a polarising issue and so unnecessary when other people are wanting to be parents.
I think the world is a better place because I am in it, not flushed down a toilet.

Absolutely, abortion has to be legalised murder, at the moment of conception new life is born, rape or not. Consent or not, I?m glad you?re in it Jenny, I would never have your writing or you, and I?d be poorer.
