Now that is what I call wry humor.
And certainly a lot of people enjoyed it.
Congratulations on winning All Time Best and for being recognized!
A "first class" fish story!
(I have to say, either this was before cell phones (picture taking ability), or he forgot his :)
Good luck in the contest.

LOL, thank you, this was an attempt at a humorous parody of JP Olsen's story "The Trophy" about a big fish he caught forty years ago and had problems trying to document it. JP used almost 2,000 words and I had only a 100 to work with...plus a very stupid piece of artwork! Thanks for reading! It did win second in the contest. Although, FanStory never announced it. Terry.

They didn't announce it? How did you know you won 2nd?

They sent a private message and posted a ribbon on my profile, but no announcement of contest results to the members on the first page. Not sure why some contests just don't get announced results.

there are a few things on FS I don't get. Their point system seems to vary with the kind of contest.

This story was well written, hence the five but I think it wasn't as good as other stories I have read written by you. To me, it was very rushed and jumbled. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Thank you for reading and the review. I appreciate your candor. I will offer you a bit of an explanation about the flash story.

J.P. Olsen wrote a very good story "The Trophy" about a big fish he caught many years ago with his father. It is almost 2,000 words. He had a dilemma about documenting the fish.

When the flash story was announced I thought of J.P.'s story and wondered if I could write a humorous parody in 100 words. It was not my intention to make fun of J.P.'s story, but rather an effort at a little humor with a 100-word restriction. The topper was the stupid drawing that would convince nobody our fisherman actually caught the fish.

When the contest ended the story was voted 2nd. But FanStory never announced it, so I decided to promote it because I thought it was fun.

You are a good reviewer, and I thank you for your fairness and insights I am sure you do not need a long explanation for a 100-word story, but as Paul Harvey use to say...now you know the rest of the story. Thank you for your kindness. Terry.

It's always difficult to tell a complete story in 100 words, yet you pulled it off in a cute and humorous way. Nice spinning of the yarn. Time to put my boat in the water and go fishing.

This is an excellent post, the trouble is of course that his drawing is about as good my architectural drawings can be, this is hilarious, he should have a stickman as a measurement, heh heh, brilliantly done Terry, blessings Roy

Hello my friend,
I don't think John will be remembered for his artwork. It does look a bit like a platypus more than a pike, which is indeed great eating.

Sure they would. John, what are you on? No one is going to buy that. As fish stories go, this will sound like the biggest lie ever told, get ready for a lifetime of being ridiculed for trying to concoct a classic tale of the that got away, that conveniently no one but you ever saw.

LOL, you are so right! I don't think the artwork helped a bit! Thanks for reading. Terry.

This certainly made me chuckle. I can just see the scene playing out and the conclusion that a hastily drawn picture will definitely be proof :-). You've done a lovely job with this - good luck in the contest!

Mike, thank you for reading, it did get second in the contest, although FanStory never announced it. No doubt it was the artwork that made the story work! Terry.

Terry,
This sounds a bit 'fishy'! Clever use of 100 words to catch a big one. What a dilemma. Lucky he wasn't dragged into the sea with his catch. If his buddies believed him, I will give him the benefit of the doubt, as well.

Well clearly because John was fishing in a Canadian lake he caught a very big fish, and that is no fishy tale either.

Of course a pencil drawing is every bit as authentic proof these days, as a photoshopped photograph.

This was very written, with a terrific and got a good laugh from me.

Well done!

Hi Terry,
Pictures don't lie. Such a great idea!
But, in truth, fishermen are the worst liars on the planet. Well, except for the politicians who get elected.
The biggest lake trout I ever caught here in southern New Brunswick was at Mosquito Lake. I was a leader in the Christian Service Brigade at our church, and we always took the boys on a fishing trip in May. This particular night, I was using a big nightcrawler with # 4 double Hildebrandt lure. It was just before dusk, and the boys had given up on fishing for the day. They were playing nearby, and getting ready for the campfire. Suddenly, I got a mighty tug on the line... it took a while to reel him in, but what a nice fish! ...16 1/4" long!!! And it was no lie either. It was so funny to see the boys all run for their fishing rods!
Good Luck in the 100 Word Dash contest!
Cheers,
Kimbob
