What a tragic ending for him,as he was apparently a young man with many contributions to society as well as his family. It will be difficult for the group to ever hunt again, remembering this. Yes, life is random. One is not promised tomorrow, and one should live accordingly. I am glad your ex-partner at least was able to share his distress with you. What a very sad story.

I've never seen my ex so upset, not even when his own brother got killed in a tractor accident when it rolled over on the farm. I think his upset was also fuelled by anger that the driver hadn't stopped after hitting the young man. Who knows - perhaps he was only injured and prompt medical attention might have saved him, but he was found too late.

Oh, that's even worse, just leaving him to die alone by the side of the road! Was the person responsible ever found?

That's a sobering and poetic ending sentence. And that kind of unexpected death happens everywhere whether is due to insanity, or drunk driving, or gun-obsessive culture.
Glad you have some positive interactions with your ex, even in letting him share his grief with you.

That's awful! The hit and run aspect is really maddening.

That's so tragic, and I'm with you, I don't like guns or shooting, I went out with dad and his friend when I was fourteen, I don't have the stomach for it, that's good you're still talking to your ex, tragic about the young man, that's one of the problems with drink, well done, blessings Roy

How very tragic Lisa and your story is sad. Maybe if her had been more alert it may not have happened, but on a country road in the dark he would have been vulnerable. How can that person who hit him live with themselves? We never know what can happen in life Lisa and this is why we should live everyday as if it is our last, love Dolly x

I enjoyed this story very much. It just goes to show how tomorrow is not promised to no-one. And how you just never know what can happen. Very well written. I liked it alot.
