I liked this piece of flash fiction, tpa. It sounded pretty frightening for the woman at first, but I got a little suspicious the way she talked about her poor husband sleeping inside. What a terrible way to have to use to escape abuse, but she did what she had to do. Well done! Good luck in the contest.

I think some people who abuse their children or in this case their wives, deserve this, and really, she had murdered him, but it could almost interpreted as self defence, well done, great flash fiction, good luck, blessings Roy

This is an emotional and suspenseful story, as it begins with a lady in distress watching her house burn down. As firefighters battle flames, it's disappointing when you read the lady's husband is still inside and could not be saved. It's shocking when she drops sleeping pills down the sewer. When she smiles, the reader is annoyed, but then the beatings will end. The reader is relived. Great job on a flash that elicits emotions. Best wishes in the contest.

I know you had to do it that way for effect, but if it was me, I would have let the pill container burn in the house. Maybe made sure of that before torching it big.

These kinds of stories are often told in various ways - it's always interesting to see the different takes on how to be rid of an abusive partner. Nicely told, but I would in the last paragraph you have the house still going up in flames after the fire fighters have left (you state she is alone). That probably wouldn't be the case. Maybe edit it? Good luck with the contest.
