That's what we miss isn't it? "I just can't hug her" I have several people I talk with almost daily, almost as background music. But I cannot hug them. How important human contact is. Sharing your vulnerability here, may help heal some.

You are welcome...so good to have you back. If you want to read either my book Traffic that I've been putting excerpts of on fb feel free to go to the portfolio...no reviews necessary or my current one about a trip I went on many years ago to England . I decided to deviate by having my character vortex into the 15th century. Boy, did I have to do a lot of research. Same deal, no reviews necessary.

Your daughter is beautiful and your poem does her justice. No, we can't hug pictures, but they are certainly the next best thing. I'm not familiar with the Tanka style poem, so I can't offer any suggestions. Best regards, Lilly

I enjoyed this. Funnily ernough I wrote something vaguely thematically similar just a few hours ago! I think the fact that it is impossible for the reader to know whether the narrator is talking about a daughter who is just living distantly, or is no longer living. The ambiguity makes the work even more interesting. Good job!

Oh, this poem is so beautiful, and brilliant, and wonderful, and SO SAD! I love this poem, but... why, WHY would you make it SO SAD?! I am going to cry. You have done a beautiful job with this poem, so congrats!

First of all, if that is an actual picture of your daughter, she is stunning! And then, I have a son who lives too far away to see as much as I would like, and I stare at his picture often as well. I feel the love and the loneliness and the pride in your work. Good job!

Thank you for your comments. I appreciate them.
She passed many years ago. I think of her as in the next room... I can't see her or hear her, but I know she's there.

I'm so sorry. That's heartbreaking. And I feel hard done by because I had to wait 2 years between visits with my only son. But I still talk to him. I'm glad that you feel her near. Hugs!

I hope that your daughter is still with us Beck. But yes indeed, knowing the qualities my wife possesses, many of those qualities have been inherited by both my daughters and are now present in my grandchildren! Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy.

Thanks, Roy, for your comments. Lisa passed a long time ago, but I keep her memory alive.

Shes beautiful. It's not easy being away from your kids, but all the more rewarding when you do get together. A great contest entry, best of luck . :)

This is a heart touching poem. And the girl in the picture is lovely. This is very sad. Obviously, the girl is in heaven. She is looking down at her dad with a huge smile in the picture and from above in heaven. Thank you for the great heart warming message.

A nice poem that gives the sense of distance but closeness, far but not far from memory, in reach but bordering on the exterior, ever-present, beacon of joy.
Have a nice day.
