OH, and I see a poem that tells a life story with a moral -- love makes everything beautiful (and I couldn't agree more)! The imagery you evoke within your clever free verse is sublime -- warmth for every reader's heart! Just lovely!

Yes, I see Love: I see beauty, mystery - a story of life. Your words paint the picture perfectly and allow the old house to tell its story of a precious childhood in a wonderful yesteryear.

Your words, "...and allow the old house to tell its story of a precious childhood in a wonderful yesteryear" give that beautiful, old house life and breath. Those are the words I was seeking for my poem but couldn't find. I now have the peace and completion through those beautiful words, and I thank you for them. Your more than generous sixth star is also appreciated. God bless. John

Incredible! I only wish I could still see the type of things with my minds eye the way this poet does. Every relic has stories, of course, and here we are introduced to so much history and life in a single vision. The use of the "I see" repetition reminds me of "I spy with my little eye." It adds to the comfort the poem gives in revealing its secret memories. Thanks!

What a wonderful review. I may have written the poem, but it's as if your words breathed life into it. That's quite amazing and I really appreciate it. Thank you so much. John

Your poem is brilliant! I hope you win the contest. Your poem is incredibly amazing with its description of the house. The image you chose is also very touching (and sad).

You're right about memories. I once saw a saying on the wall of a gift shop that read: "I thought I was all alone, and then I found my memories." As you so eloquently put it, memories are "precious" and they're also priceless. Thank you for your kind words and best wishes. John

That last line sums up everything that came before. And as you describe your visions, we see them too. A well told remembering of your simple and happy childhood.

This is a delightful look at the childhood of a carefree boy who knew he was loved. I like the different aspects and vivid descriptions of the place where you remember imagination, wonder, amazement and indescribable joy. Wonderful!

Where was this homestead? In the South? I can't believe Chinaberry trees would survive real cold. Appalachia perhaps? Amazing that people would judge that life as cruel but as children we were warm, clothed and fed daily. Life was good.

Macon, Ga. I may be mistaken about the tree. We grew up thinking is was a Chinaberry; but it was huge, unlike the ones I've googled lately. You're right, it may seem cruel but I wouldn't trade my childhood for anything. Life WAS good. Thanks for your review. John

I could see all that you described John in your child hood home. You brought the old house back, through your words, into the home you remember. Loved the goat that chased and terrorized, that made me smile. Good luck in the contest. Cheers

I didn't really care much for that goat since I provided him hours of entertainment, and I became the goat of my brothers' and sisters' jokes. I appreciate your review. John
