Congratulations on winning this contest! I can see why it won. This was a truly epic surprise. I hate to think of all the money that was wasted, though. Thanks for sharing!

Well, who surprised who? I'm glad the guy didn't leave for the
airport. You did a good job with your story leading up to the
surprise ending. Congratulations on your win.
Respectfully, Jan

This eighty-words-or-less story, Surprise Visit, has the required word count and takes me by surprise as the tables were turned with a fun and happy ending.

A nice surprise! Coming up with a story that can be told in 80 words or less is challenging, but with all the surprises we encounter in life there is always lots of subject matter. Nice job here.

What a delightful result this would be... but also annoying because of the ticket that is now unnecessary. Some surprises create problems, but the joy of seeing family again after so long would outweigh the inconvenience. Your story is well written, setting the scene of anticipation, then the surprise arrives at the door of the one intending to do the surprising.

Thanks for your review. I plan on being the surpriser later this year. Unless they show up on my doorstep first of course!

This is delightful. I like how you saved the surprise for the very end. I can only imagine this will do very well. I hope you have the opportunity for this to happen truly!

So instead of the narrator going to Australia, her parents surprised her and showed up at her door? That really would be such a shock! This fits the challenge well. Best wishes in the contest!

I thought I had chosen my selection to win this contest but not any longer. This was terrific. Let us know now if a true story or something made for a laugh and a giggle.

Thanks for the review. I intend to be the surpriser later this year. Hopefully I won't be the one getting surprised.

Meets all of the contest requirements and I loved the ending. It was indeed a surprise. I have not yet read all of the entries, but I'm guessing this one should do well. good luck. ann
