Wowzer. First, please remind me to never challenge you to a verbal duel. Ouch! You*ve cut to the quick here, and may leave several bleeding.
Surely we*ve all noticed this. Write your own fab, unique piece first, and THEN create the contest. Clever? Maybe. See through? Certainly.
I won*t judge everyone the same, though. There are some who do have good hearts and may not realize what others may see, think, or feel. Well, mostly I won*t.
So utterly outstanding from a crafting pov.

Thanks for the starry review. If this leaves several bleeding it will be because they recognise themselves - then they need to take a look at why their actions have prompted a story like this, and the comments that others have directed about those contests and the made-to-measure entries. I don't like gamesmanship.

There's been a whole slew of these type of things recently, myself included. My biggest pain / concern is the rules that have little to do with writing. It's becoming a place for word games rather than writing and being excluded from entering because of your family make-up has NOTHING to do with writing.
I hope all of this kind of thing dies soon. They're not even that popular. There's a lot of ill-feeling surrounding them as well but folk just stick their heads in the sand and become belligerent.

I agree with all your comments.... I guess there is no real point stirring the already bubbling pot, but the excluding rules are so irritating because of their obstructive nature.

Everybody is different, and all contributions should be welcomed, including in contests. Contests, especially blind ones, are helpful in knowing how one's work is generally perceived, and often they provide a prompt that one hasn't thought to try before. Your essay is well thought through, and well developed. I hope you enjoy FabStory more, and that it doesn't go down that path. Success is only meaningful if it is an acknowledgement of good writing, not if people are "playing games" to achieve success.

I'm home for more than 5 minutes at the moment, so I can comment... and I apologise if you have felt neglected by my not replying to several of your fine reviews, which I have appreciated.
In this satire I am mainly writing about how a couple of contest-setters have made their prompts so tight with rules it seems apparent that the rules are engineered to suit their own stories. I know you don't enter contests so maybe you haven't noticed.
