This was definitely reflective. The art of not looking back and regretting is a difficult one. We all have them. It's making peace with those pieces that can be hard. I really enjoyed this. I will be looking for more of your writing.

Ok, as far as your poem, I'm not sure if I've read anything more beautiful and true, in ages! Yesterday, I posted my first biographical nonfiction story, that is actually for Halloween, but needed to get it out of my hands and off my mind. I revisited all those horrible places, but more so as therapy to say goodbye for good. So, how ironic to read your remarkable story and analogies to tell the danger of looking back. As a former smoker, drinker, and gambler, I love what you said about being cautious of not remembering the bad parts, only what we loved about them. Therefore making it easier to return to our mistakes. Isn't that what Satan does best? However my favorite analogy was about the story of Lot's wife looking back. You amaze me, my friend. Thank you for the inspirational story and such wonderful words to live by!

Thank you and bless you for your kind and reassuring comments. Most of us, I am sure, have things in our past that should be left back there and not revisited for fear tahe we will fall in love with them all over again.

Please remember thatyou ahve a helper. God's holy spirit if asked for and applied works miracles when it comes to leaving bad habits behind. It works much like the angles that took Lot's hand and led him away from destruction. It really works. I smoked ofr more than 30 years, I did not think I could ever quit, but God's intervention allowed me to do it in the span of two weeks, and I never looked back after that. Later It helped me to curtail my heavy drinking. It works, but you have to believe, and be willing to work with God. If you do not participate, it will do no good.

The concept of looking back is in fact a trick played to keep us locked in a cell of our own doing.
True repentance does not look back but yet does look forward.

Have you ever tried writing specific short devotionals for the religious magazines sometimes used as adult Bible class lessons? There are a lot of them still being published. The only two I can remember off hand are: The Upper Room and Our Sunday (Visitor?) (Not sure about that last word) and there is one for the Catholic church in America and several specifically for Sunday school lessons. Best of luck with this.

As I was writing this I did think about appealing to a specific audience. I was not and to a certain degree am still not exactly sure how to get into it. If you feel like sharing what you know about how to started in this I would appreciate your sharing the information.

Your best bet is to subscribe to a newsletter like Fundsforwriters.com which has a free edition and a more indepth edition. She has lots of advice and some markets. I also get something called authors publish (don't know why) but it has lots of markets. One thing to know--the format used here is not the correct one for sending to publishers. that has no blank lines between paragraphs and 5pt indent of each paragraph usually typed in Times New Roman or Courier New 12 point. If you have more questions, I'll try to help you. Theupperroom.com or .org goes to large mainline churches.

Well written, Nomi. It is so easy as one grows older to dwell on the past, sometimes with self-recrimination. This is a useless and self-defeating occupation unless it is used to redirect future directions in a more positive direction.
