You have written a fine tribute to the first responders and their work, which is often taken for granted. They do experience fear but face it for the sake of others' safety and well being. They are heroes more often than we know. Well written. Best wishes for the contest.

Excellent entry for the Love writing prompt contest. The theme is compelling and engaging.
We all need to show gratitude to firefighters. I'm glade you brought it up.
Good luck in the contest.

Great message in this poem. Rhyming is good and you have chosen a good picture to illustrate your message. The firemen and other first responders certainly do deserve our respect and gratitude. They put their lives on the line. Thank you for sharing this.

These men are truly heroes as fighting fire is a dangerous job and every time they are called to a fire, they risk their life. We have volunteers in our town and they all deserve a medal, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

I enjoyed reading your poem which is full of emotion. The photo speaks a thousand words. Your color story is effective, however I might enlarge the font as it is a little hard to read.

We need heroes whether young or old, for without these heroes many lives would fall, author. I thank you for reminding people of their plight as they brave their lives and save many, day or night. This is a good entry for the Love Contest. Thank you for sharing.

First Responders certainly deserve our awareness and thanks for the life-saving and dangerous work they do. I think this poem glorifies but simplifies the work Responders do; as full and real humans, one cannot imagine that they spring into mortally dangerous action like superheroes. These individuals are fully people and must overcome, no doubt, a heart and head full of uncertainties and fears. This is what courage is, not some autopilot that costlessly brings us into danger without concern. This poem does mention overcoming fear, and it makes clear some of the dangers that rescue workers must face. Groups are collections of individuals who agree to sacrifice their individuality for an important purpose. This poem acknowledges the group, but not the individuals. Doing so would require a much longer and more subtle piece. This poem seems uncertain of its design with regard to whether it wants to rhyme and be metered or not; there is nothing wrong with such an ambivalence, but I think some rewriting might have made this poem stronger. Furthermore, the continued use of "they" as subjects gets tedious.

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate recommendations. My husband is a firefighter.

This is a wonderful tribute to the firefighters who risk their lives to save others. One suggestion, you might make the background just a bit lighter as it would be easier on the eyes of the reader. Best of luck in the contest.

You've picked a heroic subject for this poem. I believe most of us understand the sacrifices they may be making when they answer a call and appreciate their courage and bravery.
The only error in your writing I saw was the second line up - its should be it's (it is contraction).
Thanks for sharing your feelings here.

Having a son in-law that is a fire fighter I can relate to this poem. They do put their lives on the line every day they work. You have made others more aware through this very good & thoughtful poem.

Thank you so much! I was practically raised in a firehouse. My Grandpa being the chief then my uncle next. I married a firefighter/paramedic and there have been way too many close calls.
