This is a great poem. I see those people on Kensington Ave and I shudder. There seems to be plenty of money to rescue the rest of the world. But none to treat the natural born citizens at home. The truth Is a disgrace. You nailed it.

Like the format of your poem. And your words are so true, it can happen to anyone. I am sure if we asked any homeless person, that they would say they never planned it to be that way. We should be so thankful for what we have and be willing to share with those who are in these situations.

Hello again hope you're enjoying your day. I loved this double nonet, the subject matter, so relevant and true. I work at the library and see so many homeless everyday. Good job as always!

Is that for real: I was homeless for three years?
If so, I'm so proud of you for getting back together again. I can't image how hard it could be for homeless people.
Well done.

unfortunately, yes. 3 years, 3 months, 9 days.
i learned that homeless people can be nicer and more generous than most other people....
thank you jasmine :-)

Oh, my, when it comes to the issue of homelessness, I have more questions than answers. Why are there SO many? What will happen to them? As your moving, timely poem says, they get stereotyped in one of those categories, whether they belong there or not!

This is stunning. Truly drives the point home. So many are so close to being in that situation and yet have no empathy for those who are in it. The time glass like structure really gives the poem a flow that becomes very frantic at the "no one sees us homeless as people" moment, giving it a big punch.

My God-
This is a lament and a prayer, a cry for social consciousness and a deeply personal exposure of your own once wounded spirit. I am euphoric that you stepped away from your shyness to gift the world with this poem that truly is an anthem for change! SIX STARS!

Many people are just one paycheck away from being homeless. I don't understand why more can't be done for those people. I believe it could. Thank you for sharing this challenge from Karen with us.

Yes, it sure can happen to
anyone. So sorry you went
through homelessness. This
is a poignant and powerful
poem. There's a great Christian veterans shelter not far from where I live. The
Christian organization that runs it has been doing well with assisting veterans with
mental health/job training/
three meals a day. I hope
you have a creative week.
