Your poem has a nice sentiment, and it reads very well. The presentation is nice too. It makes me wonder when you decided to start having pets, and whether you were also against sharing emotion with other people when you were young.

I still don't have a pet but I stopped being a bear in a cave when I met my wife. She is far better than a dog! And she is sitting beside me as I write this. Thank you for the kind words and generous rating.

Sweet sentiment.
Your first four lines flow so beautifully! Using parentheses accented the second line nicely. I enjoy the alliteration in "deep devotion." It might be fun to tool around with even more punctuation choices, like periods and semi-colons. A longer pause after "cold" would add even more emphasis to your close. Might be interesting to move the elipses (...) down one line.
Soothing tone, a warm fuzzy read. Always a pleasure to read your work.

Thank you. You have got me thinking now about poetic punctuation as being marks on a musical score. In poetry, would non-standard punctuation be seen as just 'poetic liberty' that adds value rather than distracting the flow? ee cummings comes to mind.

I believe that wholeheartedly. Punctuation is a priceless tool for any poet! It can add so much meaning...

Thought I answered this -- don't see my reply, so if it's a repeat my apologies.
I absolutely believe that punctuation is an invaluable tool for a poet. It can contribute so much. The only thing that might make me second guess is if you're writing a poem that is supposed to meet a syllable requirement. Adding in "slow down" punctuation is almost a cheat! But one I love to employ. I guess you'd just want to make sure it didn't corrupt the flow of the intended form...

Ciao mystery poet, you now have 3 votes.

Better late than never.

You deprived yourself of much sweet love not having a pet in your life.

I'm glad that you discovered in your old age what wonderful creatures dogs (and cats) are.

I have had both ..a dog will love you unconditionally ... you need to work a bit to earn a cat's love and respect ..but that's okay.

Your house might be a bit harder to keep clean and your purse less full but they will fill your life with love and joy.

I wish you and your pet many joyful years still together. (hearts)

I am sure your life has been much improved by loving Pup. I feel that shutting down on emotion might save a few hurts, but it also restricts the chance to enjoy. A connection with a pet lifts us into loving (as long as they don't shit in our shoes!)
I enjoyed your poem very much - nice introduction of rhyme, and tone of gentle emotion.

This sweet. The picture is beautiful. The love can be felt between an animal and man. Thank you so much for posting this excellent poem.
Best wishes. And good luck.

Hello :)
I enjoyed reading your nonet, which is in perfect form.
Life is lovely and warm when shared with a dog. Truth!
I like your use of alliteration in line four and the way you incorporate rhyme into the poem is lovely.
Good luck in the contest.
Debra :)

Thank you for your much appreciated review and rating. It helps to see what is liked (or not liked) by the reader. It is really rare to get that kink of review, though. Thank you.
