I really enjoyed this, it was about many things apart from being a responsible driver, and confident gal, I enjoyed your love of sharing the event with your sons everyone, I felt the joy!

Dear Joann, Thank you for your review and the five stars.
I acted as I felt, relief, delight, happiness, and an inarticulate response to the situation. My friend, Betty was as delighted as I was, and my actions were spoken of for a long while afterwards. She said the policeman
who had taken my test was just inside the door with a huge grin on his face, watching. cheers Cass

How wonderful! I'm glad to read about this wonderful achievement. I like the humor you put into it with the near run-in and talking to Esmeralda. I wondered how you had a car - was it your husband's?
Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you for your review and the five stars. My husband had bought himself a short wheel based Land Rover. It had the letters ROL on its number plate so we christened it Roley the Rolling Stone. There was no way I would leave a perfectly good car to sit in the garage not being used, so I announced I would be taking driving lessons. Which I did, but failed my test. The children decided "Mum's car" should have a name too, and quite out of thin air came the name "Esmerelda".She was a wonderful car, I really loved having her and was sad when she was sold to a young lad who worked with my husband. I coudn
't keep her because we were moving.

The car had been the family car until my husband bought a short wheel based Land Rover. After that she was

I remember my own euphoria in 1970 when I got my driver's licence (also in Australia) and was able to ride a motorbike to school. I liked the mention of your lovely 2-tone FBHolden sedan, and the Avon lady - very Aussie details. I enjoyed your story; your interaction with the young cop was entertaining. Having wheels is freedom indeed.

Corrections:

very aware of the speed limits during that that (remove 2nd that) time of day.

I confessed ,blushing furiously. (fix spacing before and after comma)

no longer a "learner driver" ,but a fully fledged (fix spacing before and after comma)

Dear Lisa May Thank you for your review and the five stars. Thank you also for the corrections which have been followed and fixed. It is extraordinary how such glaringly obvious errors can be overlooked after a very close perusal, isn't it? Never mind, all done and dusted now.cheers

It's a matter of "can't see the wood for the trees" when it comes to checking our own writing.

I thought this piece was so funny and well-told! Thanks for sharing this work. I'm glad you got your license! I like that your car was called Esmerelda.

Dear Jessizero,Thank you for your review and the five stars. cheersThe name of the car "Esmerelda" just came to me one day when I was out driving with my husband. He had recently bought a short wheel based Land Rover with the letters ROL on its number plates, and we had christened it Roley the Rolling stone. The children said my car should have a name too, so out of thin air came the name "Esmerelda". cheers

Definitely sounds like a great day. I like your upbeat writing style and enjoyed the story. My only suggestion would be to add a space between paragraphs just to help your readers' eyes move through it more easily. Really great job!

Dear Cristine, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I have followed your suggestion of letting more "air" in between the paragraphs. It should look better now. cheers

That is a great feel good story. I remember that driving test, over sixty years ago. It was a traumatic experience. My memory is getting bad, but I remember the two instances that were close calls. I passed.

sounds like it was a big day for you, and is written with animation and youthfulness.(You must have married very young)
I have a question. I'm not familiar with "a three point reverse," unless it means three tries?
Anyway, good for you. Cute story.

Dear Katherine, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Sorry, my bad. I meant a three point turn.
I've fixed it now. I was married at nearly 23, but had no children until nearly six years later. I was going on for 34 when I went for my driver's licence.
My husband's boss's wife was so sweet about me gaining it she bought a cake at the local bakery, so when I went in to collect my husband she had it all cut up and ready for everyone to have a piece.
