Well done with your rhyming poem on the bombing of Darwin K. My dad's battalion was sent up there as part of the clea up after, then went onto Singapore where they became prisoners of war. Glad you shared this story.

Thank you Valda. Was he imprisoned in Changi? I went to the prisoner's chapel and listened to their story. Love, K xx

He was for a while then was transported to Japan by prison ship and spent the rest of the war as a POW there.

Good luck wishes for the Rhyming Poem contest, Kay. The picture was a sad one in that it definitely showed the devastation that rain on Darwin. Your words showed a wonderful rhyming pattern and further showed the devastating destruction of the area. Very well done and sadly enjoyed.

Hello my friend Ailie. I'm writing a series on the attacks on Oz. So far, Americans didn't know we were bombed. Thank you. Love, K xx

LOL, as a Canadian who moved south in 1996, I did know about the attacks on Australia. You are so welcome, Kay.

    Did you move to Oz??

Nope, a dream that will probably not come true now.

War is horrible and I strongly feel totally unnecessary for the survival of human kind. But then people's need has no end .
It was a thought provoking poem about Darwin ...

Hello Sanku, Nothing glorious about wars. We are on the brink of another one if Putin moves on Ukraine. Man is a war monger, always has been. Thanks for reading. Because Americans that read this didn't have a clue about the bombing of Oz; decided to do a series. Love, K xx

I have never heard of this attack before, so many thanks for sharing. Historical poetry is of great significance, I think, and likely the best way for young people of all ages to learn.

Waltzing Matilda is a song I know very well. Thank goodness your dad made it home unscathed. It sounds like quite a battle.

Really enjoyed this one.

Thank you Gloria. I am going to write about the time that Japanese mini subs sunk our ships in Sydney Harbour. Three mini subs launched out at sea; their mission to sink the USS Chicago, moored at Sydney docks. They missed her and hit a converted ferry killing 21 sailor's. Many thanks for the sixer. I love rhyming, find it a challenge. Jannypan was so taken by my poem, she spent $18 getting me on page 2. I was gobsmacked; she is very patriotic. We are having problems getting the club members, I told her to ask Tom. I think our writing clubs deserve more coverage. So many don't know they exist! I have noticed that there are more paid prompts and less free contests. Love to you from Down Under. K xx

This is an amazing story of history and one I am sure not many had ever heard of before. I have a vague memory of the story. Well written. Have a wonderful week.

It's amazing how you can take a historical incident and put the details in creatively rhymed poetry, while educating the reader. You've included interesting facts and details about how Darwin suffered in 1942. Fortunately, your father returned home safe.

This is an event more needs to be told. I believe many don't know about this part of WW2. You did a great job, Aussie. I like the theme, the perfect image, the color scheme, and the rhymes. Your words are well thought out and are filled with great imagery. I could see everything you wrote. I'm thrilled your father wasn't stationed there.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

Aussie,

You have a very unique way of making the reader feel the emotional as well as physical toll of war. I heard some honcho at the UN ask why nations can't get along. It is not nations. Without power hungry "leaders" I think we would all get along. Man is inherently good. We have to be taught to hate and destroy. Your poem is very powerful in the best way.

Your well-written poem vividly and wrenchingly describes the horrors of war, the total devastation that ensues when one side is terribly outnumbered. (fore-filled? fulfilled?)
