I never got a chance to read this before the voting ended, but I'm delighted to see you won the contest, with this lovely story. A nice interpretation of the theme. Vert well done.

Excellent story for this contest, good luck. I often have thought that the best nonfiction is really fiction based on a true story. That is because fiction can capture the pathos of the story that nonfiction misses in order to make the story factual. Your story adds that pathos. Well-done.

Thank you for your very astute review and good wishes. I agree. Some non-fiction is just too unbelievable to be interesting.

Excellent entry for the The Prisoner writing prompt contest.

Your story about Bella and her dad in prison is very touching.

Nice story in its entirety and compelling in structure. The telling flows well. Good luck in the contest.

I suspect there is some truth to your fictional story. I just read not too long ago that Woody Harrelson's father was not only a hitman but also killed a judge and is in prison. I wonder if Woody's father is proud of him. I hope so. Best wishes.

Thank you very much for reviewing - much appreciated. Bella did win, and her father is in prison, and she did say in her speech that she loved and missed him. But the rest of the story is fiction.

This one-hundred-word short story, Bill, has the required word limitations and creates a scene to go along with a true event. I like what you did with it.

Let's hope the real 'Bill' did hear it, and let's hope it changes him for the better.

This was truly a great story, I had to read it three times because I enjoyed it so much. The twist at the end was just fabulous. A virtual six and I wish you the best of luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx Off to vote now.

You have told a moving story. I like the character of Dave. There is always somebody as a lead in prison. Dave fits that.

I like the ending that Bill wept.

Thanks for sharing such a moving story..,

This story was very inspiring. Love to read that music brighten up the prisoner and to think it turned out to be his daughter who won the honors on The Voice.

At the start I did not see your ending coming. That was as well written as one hundred words can let anyone. Very nice. True or false? Real or Fiction?

Half and half. The basic story of Bella Taylor Smith winning The 2021 Voice Australia contest is true, and that is her photo. She had an extraordinary voice, and in one of her preliminary rounds she told about her father in prison (drug offences I think). The prison scene, and her father's name and reaction, were all fiction. Many thanks for your kind review. Much appreciated.

Bella was smart, people love hard luck stories. It makes them cry and get caught up their feelings. Good choice you made also. The contest did say the subject could be literal and some may have seen this or know the story.
