Well done. Your poem is very descriptive, very vivid, and one can easily imagine the scene, and the relief of the sailor to see the new day ("a pearl"). I like the thankfulness expressed in the last line as well.

I love sonnets but am not familiar with Italian Sonnet but from your notes, I think you have mastered it beautifully.

Excellent rhyme and meter. Beautiful alliteration.

Well done.
Blessings

I like the picture. It certainly is a stormy sea.

I always admire writers' sonnets. My English doesn't allow me to be qualified to do it.

I like the ending sentence to thank God for surviving the storm

Thanks for sharing

Very impressive that you took on the challenge of writing an Italian sonnet, Ive never written one, I should attempt a prompt, there are so many interesting ones on the site.

I enjoyed reading your poem, but I'm not familiar with the Italian sonnet, only the Shakespearean sonnets. But, I did really enjoy this one, being a sea lover and having always wanted to be a sailor, but it wasn't something I could do back in my days, women weren't allowed in the RN. Hmm, they couldn't get away with that these days! Well done for this well written, creative poem. :)) Sandra xx

This is a very good sonnet about a fisherman fighting his mistress, the sea, for survival. The picture adds to the story and I enjoyed the image the words painted as well. Thank you for sharing and take care.

Who doesn't love a sonnet but the writer?

How challenging to march the meter through!

If you meandered off, that takes nothing from the beauty of your words.

Perhaps it is an Italian Sonnet because merlot would sooth the savage iambic beast!

By my count, all are eleven syllable lines but five... (Lines
8, 11, 12, 13 and 14 I believe?)

This is also known as a Petrarchan Sonnet, correct?

A most ambitious choice! We grow because we reach for the stars!

As one who has IPD...(Iambic Pentameter Disorder) I would be asea myself, particularly with a chosen eleven syllable count! (smile)

A valiant effort, and the sailor survived!

Thanks much, it pains me mightly that the great sonnets are so elusive to my pen.

Yes, vain is the student who doesn't possess the maturity and skill of the great masters whose pens no longer flow with ink.

I imagine the Bard of Avon would have pierced himself in the eye with his quill if he let every "iamb" whip him into submission!

Oh, I don't think they are! I get that it's as structured form...but those that linger exclusively in meter or line count do not allow their from-the-heart expression to flow! Basho, Hiku Master wrote: " Learn the rules and then forget them. ? Matsuo Basho"

Keep letting your voice be heard. Poetry and you are in sync!

Your words of this sonnet are filled with great imagery. The lines progress well to describe one of the perils of the sea's wrath. I'm not familiar with Italian sonnets, so I won't comment on the meter. Several lines seemed to have the phrases transposed, but that is your choice. An example in my opinion is ~ Until overboard he made the choice to jump.
Thanks for sharing and the notes.
Respectfully, Jan
