'Patti giggled (and) snatched a cookie and dipped it in her cup of milk.' (,) This, in my opinion, makes the sentence sound tighter.
Very emotional story and thank you for sharing. Take care.

I am getting slower by the second and every time I think I have a handle on being polite and telling everyone how much their efforts and words mean to me (truly mean to me) I discover I have just fallen further behind. I appreciate that people actually enjoy what spills from my aging brain and couldn't find more happiness than sharing my writing. I thank you for your time and thoughts.
Sending a basket of smiles and hugs and apologies... especially to those I've left waiting for days.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
May cupid sprinkle you with much joy!
Always, Carol

Your story reads well, Carol. I was engaged from start to finish. I like the innocence of the child in what she believes. I like the way Patti's mother comes to understand just who she saw. The ending with Dad showing up at the door was great. I believe more stories could come from this one.
Respectfully, Jan

Hi Carol,
I usually try to refrain from giving six stars away so early in the week. But I already gave one to giraffmang (Gareth) for his piece on Covid, to get vaccinated or not. And I can't keep one from you either. This is a wonderful story. I can easily see why Naomi was worried about her daughter speaking to a strange man. Then, near the end, you deliver the punch line when we find out that the stranger was her long lost father from 20 years ago. Emotions strained! But forgiveness reigned.
Nicely penned! Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Kimbob

I enjoyed reading your story! I love the mystery you have so effortlessly intertwined in it. Your dialogue as usual is excellent, and presents the characters' thoughts so well.

Confession. I perused comments and saw that you wrote this, in part, because the fifth anniversary of your father's death was weighing on your heart. I'd worry about any little girl talking to a strange man, of course--the mother's instinct in this story is right. Knowing your mindset made the ending all the more poignant. I think most many of us would like an opportunity to have just such a reunion...and maybe, just maybe, create a happy ending.

Hi Sweetie... Yes, my father was on my mind and heart. As I see my life unfold at the moment, it's heartbreaking and then I look back and tell myself he was who he was and I should have tried harder. It is what it is! Maybe heaven has softened him and he now understands his daughter loved him and only wanted to be loved in return.
Hugs, Carol

I'm told they did the best they could with what they had to work with at the time. I try to be comforted by that. It doesn't always work...
-
I am working on it too!
My daughter told me the other day (well, actually she posted this thing on facebook which she says was a joke) She said first she thought she was like her father because he always screamed and swore, but she's discovered she's her mother...
Never satisfied!
now there's a zinger for ya!

Talk about the classic back-handed compliment. ARGH!
My brother-in-law told me on the phone yesterday, these "kids" don't yet understand we won't live forever!

Well, you never really know a person, until you really know
them. And when they say..."Gramps wouldn't do that...cause
he does volunteer work at the pantry", that could very well
be a camouflauge. I like how this is turning out. Keep Writing.
And stay connected

I love these touching stories you create. In this one, I agree with Naomi. A young girl who is evidently in the park alone shouldn't meet with a strange man and know what his other activities are...like helping at the food pantry. I was amazed that Patti had the authority to invite a man to dinner without parental consent, but I knew the story would end on a happy note. Thanks to Patti, her mother and gramps were reunited.

An interesting and moving story. I would be concerned at a child meeting a man unknown to her mother several times, but perhaps this was a while ago when times were safer. The ending sounds as though there is the possibility of forgiveness and reconciliation, which promises well for the future of their relationship.
Well written.

With egg on my face, I shamefully thank you for finding the time to read my post and to respond. I have taken two days of reading and answering posts and am still 50 away.
Smiles and hugs and greatly appreciated.

We all wish that every family can be reunited. We don't know all the reasons why family members either get cut off or disappear. But we hope for healing and restoration while still in this life. Well told story with natural dialogue!

Really enjoyed this portion of a book(?). Lots of foreshadowing for future chapters. I appreciate how much backstory you introduced in such a short piece. The child character was hard for me to relate to. Her dialogue was too mature for a child who would "jump up and down" when greeting someone. She was obviously out on her own quite a bit to have developed a relationship with an adult who she encountered in various places and apparently on different occassions.
Thanks for an enjoyable read.

You are one prolific lady! Really; enjoyed reading your latest several posts with a b it of envy I must confess; it has been a few months since time smiled her available smile on me that I might write. And here I am, enjoying once again, the art of procrastination.
Blessings and lots of thanks for making your precious thoughts and imaginations available.
