What a very sad story. It is hard to imagine what a profound effect such a death has on so many people without actually experiencing a similar loss, but you paint a vivid picture.

How ironic that Terry survived all his health problems while Trudy-Lynn was lost. We can never assume, can we?

Thank you for explaining the coin. I'd never heard that before.

One small point- strictly it should be "he" not "him and his wife" in paragraph 2.

Thank you for the read, and best wishes for the contest.

Great poem for the non-fiction writing contest. I am so sorry for your loss. You expressed a tribute to her in very well-crafted and heartfelt language. Well done with this sad, painful, but hopeful story.

What a poignant story told well, Joanne. Your story is rich in details which allow readers to feel it emotionally. My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of Trudy-Lynn. I understand about how working on the house affected your brother. My brother did the same thing, with projects, after Dad, Mother, well anyone passed.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

I know this is a non-fiction story, and it seems a deeply emotional one, but from the outside reader, there seems to a part missing. The reader learns a lot about Trudy-Lynn and the impact of her sudden death. But we aren't told how she died.

Thank you for opening your heart and sharing this sad story. Death of any loved one is always hard, but when a child passes before their parents, it just doesn't seem right. I trust you have all found comfort and peace.

Joanne, hello my friend.. I really felt the sense of your loss after reading your story. It is wonderfully written and a thoroughly heartwrenching piece. I am so sorry for your loss. Please forgive me for not saying more. I had injections in each hand yesterday and find it difficult to type. Great job.
