I love these examples of the PEN form. You could have had 10 separate postings, but en masse here you show a wide range of possibilities in subject matter, including witty, philosophical, topical, and seasonal etc. clearly showing that anything goes, as long as it is in 4 lines with 9 words. Clever and skilful writing.

Thank you, Lisa. PENs are fun little ditties to write. You're exactly right: I wanted to give people an idea of what might be possible with this form. I should post another one made up of several verses too. I've been thinking of creating a contest even.

You've certainly shown folks how they can be done.

You have met the syllable count for a pen. The word that come to mind to describe your set of pens is witty. I am glad you said it was 10 separate pens. When I first read it seemed disjointed. Then I read the authors notes, and it made sense, I do not see any room for improvement.

Thank for calling these witty. Golly!

There was a member on a long-gone poetry board that had trouble figuring out syllables. (I know, but there it is.) We came up with this form to allow people to ignore syllables. If you can count up to three words, you can write a PEN.

Now that's an interesting form that I may try. The last one intrigues me because that trash is coming back around. What a wonderfully written poem. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day, and God bless.

Thanks, Mike. Sometime last century, I was on a poetry board that would start chains of PENs. Someone would start with a PEN, the next person would use the last line of the previous PEN as their first line and continue on. It was great fun. Have a wonderful day as well.
