My thoughts are: If a woman does not want a baby, See first if she will carry and let a couple or single person adopt, She selects who will pay her costs from now until the baby is born. Of until she has a miscarriage. They bear All costs regardless of the outcome, just like in real life. If she does not want to carry the baby she has an abortion and the father of the child pays. If he wants sex with no responsibilities he must get a vasectomy. Karen

This issue is so unnecessarily divisive. I don't feel I have the right to dictate what anyone else does with their reproductive health. If others feel strongly against terminating a pregnancy, I'm certainly pro-life for them! If males had states or Supreme Courts legislating their reproductive issues, we would have had seven civil wars this week!

Thanks for reviewing this one! I was surprised at the civilized responses it received when first posted...

This brings me to tears. So beautifully written on such a tragic topic. You bring the emotions that accompany a situation such as this to life. Nurses see and do so much, Earth Angels!

Out of 6 stars, as this somber
poem merits 6. Your penning
is amazing Karenina. You've
written bravely. I have a poem entitled, "God's Own," it's on
my portfolio list. Congratulations on Poem Of
The Month. Blessings ~

Thanks so much! You've dazzled me with these stars... I was Jenny's nurse years ago... The Agawam NY of the loss has stayed with me.

There is no wondering here why this is Poem of the Month. First, the topic is so important. The issue is something that concerns us all and should break our hearts. And secondly, you as poet and with tender heart have created a masterpiece of beauty and pain interwoven with love and compassion. The images are powerful and moving. Your poem should have had every vote. Congratulations for the much deserved win. I needed two Kleenex when I finished reading.

This took my breath away more than once as I read. I was disappointed with the young girl on the gurney. As you took us further, I realized there are so many more variables that drive these young women to desperation. The decisions they make concerning their bodies and their lives should remain theirs. This piece didn't change my perspective it merely reinforced what I had already felt. Great writing and congrats on poem of the month.

Hello John. Thanks for coming to read this! Indeed, I felt the very same way about Jenna when I attended her as an RN some years back. My views, too, did not change! I was humbled to realize how many shades of grey there are in the process from young women seduced to doctors "sterilizing" the "procedure." I still pray for her. I pray for that little soul in heaven as well! Thanks!

Congratulations on your nomination. A surprise, really. Don't take that the wrong way. The life of an unborn child, so very precious, is not esteemed by all. It's sad that many have lost their souls, thinking abortion is okay. Killing a baby is never going to be okay. If they reap what they sew, and they will, it's a large bucket for them one day unless they repent.

Outstanding poem which left me deeply moved and more committed than ever to my pro-life causes.

Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sal XOs...

Thanks, Sally. A surprise to me as well to be one of the nominees. I'll take that as a win (smile.) It's a very difficult subject -- I tried to present it apolitically, as it's a moral question in my estimation. I am positive I will not be in the running... Which is fine. There are many wonderful nominees more deserving!

I do not know how I missed your posts till Theo woke me up. What a wonderful voice you have. This painful song of Jenna-Lou needed to be sung, and you obliged with full voice.

Thank you so much, Richard. Your six-star review means a lot. Theo's been encouraging me to unleash and try free verse and this was a memory I wanted to "sing." Thrilled to have you reading anything of mine!

Your poem is utterly heartbreaking yet beautiful. As a woman that will never be able to carry a baby, I feel for the child that felt as though she had no choice. I couldn't imagine.

    Hi Heather...

Thank you so much for your six starvreview. I'm sure this poem must have been particularly difficult,
    given your circumstance.

Jenna was a patient I attended to years ago. She's stayed in my heart...

I've often wondered what became of her.

I hope she was able to move forward...

You are most welcome and it?s well deserved. I don?t think our patients know how much they mean to us and how much we think of them after they are discharged from our care.

    So true...

We act clinically but our emotions are just behind that veil of professionalism!
