It's almost as if you could read ol' Redbeak's mind, and his feasting on apples leads me to believe you know a little about parrots. Although, I know nothing at all. Life's all about the smiles, so thanks for this one! Thanks for sharing.

Ol' Redbeak is a chip of the ol' block... I know they live or can live 100 years or more... and they are natural-born comedians... but, he squawked at me as I was strolling through Google Images... am affliction I have... so once again I am grateful for your stellar review... yours, di

Wow. Penetrating verse, reflections on personal freedom, the changing seasons when all the birds leave for a warmer climate.
But who knows what those intelligent birds really think?
Watched a video of a (Brazillian I think?) parrot looking at a bottle with a treat in it and a pipe cleaner nearby. The parrot bent a hook into the pipe cleaner, put it down the bottleneck, and retrieved the treat.
Ha.
And we think We are smart?

This poem, The Ancients Speak, has a thoughtful view of all that history has rolled out and, as we view it in retrospect, imagining how bold and brave we were. Then, with a nod to creature comforts, discount all thatb came before.

As usual, always your take on things that I like. Loved the humour, the quirk, the imagery.
I am sure looking at parrots in a different way from now on.
My best wishes.

I suspect that Ol' Redbeak is a lot like me. A chip-off the old block really. So, he decided to evolve preferring creature comforts as it were... thanks for your stellar fun review... I really appreciate that when you review you address me and not a vague bunch of gobbly-guck taking up space.

It's a wise bird that appreciates its home comforts, even when the call of the wild echoes in the corners of its mind. This is a very creative form, of the poem within the poem. It works extremely well. Very nice verses, and a lovely photo.

You are right. It is a complete mystery of what the ancients have done. I really did like your story in a poem. Exceptional work! No grammatical errors. Thank you for sharing! Good luck!

Very nice poem inside a poem! I enjoyed this very much and hope it does well in the contest. I thought it was very cleverly done, but also told a neat little story.

I loved this! Obviously, he does not envy the birds heading south for the winter. Not when he gets to sit by a nice warm fire, being fed apples slices and sundry snacks by a human. who adores him! Great story in a poem - highlighting a beautiful bird.

I like the thoughts you give Ol' Redbeak as he sits in his cage hearing other birds outside flying free. But then he thinks of the cold, the snow appreciating the warmth inside. Loved your final line.

Me too... I think I might be personifying Ol' Redbeak without his permission... oh well... he hasn't squawked yet. I think he's doin' alright. Thanks so much for your stellar review Pearl... so appreciated. yours, di
