Yes, my house was built in 1875.
It was the old county courthouse.
So, I know what you are dealing with.
But they are such wonderful homes.

Lived in an old house as a child. A good description.
The poem flows well. The images are sharp. The words are simple and comfortable, befitting a home. The rhymes are unforced.

I really enjoyed this poem. It actually reminds me of the house we live in now that we bought last year. Walled up fireplace, windows too big, and a backed up sewer even.
I liked the sentiment very much and the care you took describing it.
If I were to suggest anything it would be it's quite difficult to find a flowing rhythm in some sections. Removing some of the articles and a few less syllables could help smooth it out.
I loved the rhyming and the premise. Very good work!

Home is where the heart is, and despite all the things that are wrong with it, this house is yours and it's home. All those memories made in the 30years you have lived there are gold, although I don't envy you the backed up sewer line!

This house is depicted as having lots of character and history to boast about but maybe a few repairs needed here and there as time takes a toll, but is filled with love and happy memories - sound delightful actually!

You are blessed to live in an old house filled with character and memories. Better that than the modern boxes that are more functional than exquisite.
We have a fairly modern country house, but we think of it as our mansion, and try to fill it with wonderful memories and nostalgic throw-backs to our own history. Maybe someday far into the future, someone will view it as a fine old mansion! Anyway, thank you for sharing this lovely piece of writing. :-)
