This is a sweet story and I enjoyed reading it. Animals have a way of warming people up and bringing them together. Cute cat, too. The story is indeed, a winner.

What a heartwarming story, and the ending is, of course, totally believable once you consider that it was predicated by a kitten. How clever of the six-year-old to realize the healing powers of a small ball of fluff. I'm happy to see the kitten was able to ease the sadness of both cousins, and encourage their relationship. As I said, it's a kitten, so the story is totally believable, and completely relatable to cat-lovers such as myself.

Yep, throw in a kittycat and let the love flow. The 6-yr-old was clever, but so was mummy to 'find' that kitten at the 'park'.

Good point. You'd think, as a mom myself, I'd have given the mother credit but no, I favored the child and the cat. Kind of shows you where parents of children and pets find themselves on the totem pole of life.

Far too low on the pole. I'll fly your flag for you. xx

Do totem poles have flags? They do now.

Totem poles have faces, and many of them show teeth. Drill a hole and place the flag between the teeth, like a tango dancer with a rose between her teeth. Who knows, you might start a new trend.

This is a clever family fiction story that describes how an innocent little gray kitten (your picture is too cute and adorable) brings together two children who are struggling with a difficult family situation. I love the very creative title. I hope this story is the winner. Best wishes.

This story, A Padlocked Heart, is a delightful tale of a coming to terms with change and being the good person to those who look up to you.

Yes a family story to warm the heart and remind us what families are all about, troubles and woes and even grief but also fun and love and little kittens and 'stacks of books'

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! I tried to put in the things that make a house a home - love, a pet, and books.

Great entry for the ~ Family ~ fiction story writing prompt contest. Good job following all the rules! My goodness so many LoL

Love Jeremy and Katy story. The kitty, moky, help them become good friends and easy the transition.

Well done, my friend, and good luck in the contest.

LisaMay,

What a sweet little story! I appreciate the fact that these two kids were able to work out their problems without a lot of interference from the big people. It made it much more realistic, too. It's a sweet piece! Good luck!

Thanks for your comments. I think mummy was clever to get the kitten... then the kids worked out their friendship themselves.

A wonderful story. It should do very well in this contest, good luck. I love the way the kitten brought them together. The dialogue you used between the kids was well-done. Good work.

Lol. So you had to go there, huh? A kitten write? Come on. Haha. Yep, the masses on this dumb site fall for that shit every time. I'd say good luck but you clearly won't need any. Lol. Have a good one, L.

hahaha... I don't mind using an innocent kitten in my obsessive manipulation of maximum mindless morons (good alliteration?) to try to gain top spot and beat another entrant (not necessarily you).
I'd give kitty a gun but apparently murder isn't allowed, although a certain author wrote a story containing a murder in another family non-fiction prompt and when I commented on that fact in a review, next time I checked, well - surprise surprise - the wording of the rules had been changed and there was no longer reference to not being allowed to have a murder. Manipulation abounds!

Lol. Yeah, that's all I hope to accomplish in these contests, just be ahead of someone else. Lol. I love how the rules get changed around just to fit whatever they wrote about. Yeah, mo murder unless their piece has murder in it...then it's allowed. How odd. Looks like I'm gaining on you. At least, so far, I'm past someone else. Lol.

This is a very beautiful piece of writing. Heart-warming and sentimental. I know it's a work of fiction (supposedly), but it is so real and plausible. Kids and animals. We'd be lost without them. Thanks for the great read.

Thanks so much for your uplifting review rating. I hope I didn't lay on the sentimentality too heavy-handed.
