It is good that genealogy helps people find family. I'm always afraid I'll find out I came from horse thieves or scullery maids. lol. You did a great job with the kyrielle.

lol I actually did my father-in-law's genealogy and found out that there was a horse thief in his wife's line and a maid who eloped with her employer's son in his line. But they were Mayflower descendants. I'm glad you enjoyed this kyrielle. Thanks for dropping by to read and review.

This is lovely, June. You picked the perfect image and repeat line. The words "I found a portal to the past" create mystery and wonder. You carry those emotions with you throughout the poem. Connecting with unknown family members is wondrous indeed. The reader shares your wonder in every line of the poem.
I see that this is not an autobiographical piece. The use of the first person really helps your message though. Good job.

I love form and meter, and while I can't remember the requirements of a kyrielle I have every confidence you have it right. And your meter is so solid it's a pleasure to read aloud in the head.
Clever and very natural rhyme on those "ast" endings, and super alliteration on "portal to the past".

I enjoyed this poem. I am fascinated with genealogy and I am amazed with the accuracy the DNA can find matches that you have no idea were there. I have learned so much about my past that my parents were aware of. On Ancestry I've been able to go back ten or more generations.
