FASSSS-IN-ATING! I had been watching a Net Flicks series called "Surviving Death" and in one segment a sister (I believe), grieving for the death of her sibling was told to look for a cardinal. They lived in a warm climate that wasn't cardinal friendly. But as you might guess, she and a friend (or another sibling, I don't remember), with camera running, not only saw the cardinal, but it was a persistent bugger. It landed on her shoulder. After "talking to her sister" and sharing her love, she put the cardinal on the branch of a tree. She turned to walk away, and the cardinal was back on her shoulder.

I watched a newscast some time ago about a woman who attended the funeral of a loved one. Hundreds of doves were released. The casket was buried and she went to her car. There on the fender was one of the doves. She discarded the idea as a coincidence. When she got home and parked the car in her garage, she was about to enter the house when she was urged by something to look back at the car. There, on the fender was the same dove, identified by the tag on its leg.

Thank you for writing such a brilliant piece (whoever you are)! You've inspired a lot of people. Good luck in the contest.

This is a great short short story, full of emotion. Thanks for the informative note of what a red cardinal can represent (I didn't know this) - your message was perfect. Clear and succint (I hate overblown notes).
