Well done. She deserves some kind of memorial. There is some terrible evil abroad wherever one goes, and it is not just 'these days' either English folk ballads are full of such gruesome stories that were based on actual murders. Long Lankin, Little St Hugh of Lincoln, to name but two. The ballads were the newspapers of their day.

Thank you so much Dolly. Felt very sad at thinking about her terror.
They have arrested the mother's boyfriend. The child lived about 1000 kilometres away, with her grandmother, but was visiting her mother for the summer holidays.

There is no way I can fathom that another human being would find pleasure in taking the life of another human, let alone an innocent child. I can't imagine how their minds even wrap around something like that.
My heart prays she died quickly and mercifully. So sad!

Thanks Carol for reviewing. Yes, it 's been very distressing watching them search day and night for her, and then finding out that it was allegedly her mother's partner. Unbelievable.

Oh my gosh...put another stake in that mom's heart when she realizes she opened the door for this to happen. I hope it was not willingly. The loss of a child is an unbearable load to carry.

Oh good Lord!!! Is that an actual picture of her? Heartbreaking!!! Her poor parents must be devastated. The mother must be thinking the same thing--she died alone. Who do the authorities think did this evil act?

Thanks so much for reviewing, I appreciate it. Yes, that is her photo. She lived with her grandmother in Queensland but was holidaying with her mother and mother's boyfriend down here. The boyfriend has been accused. Why not just send her back to the grandmother if he (or they) they couldn't cope? The authorities aren't sure yet if the mother had any involvement. So sad. Some children have such a hard life.

I heard this news too and have felt wretched ever since. How ghastly for her suffering family. Sometimes outrage at evil doings needs an outlet, and you have done it through a poem that resonates with anyone who has a heart.

That's just too horrible. That little girl could have had a full and happy life and that heartless murderer took her life. I am glad he's arrested but her family must be devastated. Thank you for honoring her.
