This was a great read. I can tell there is knowledge of PTSD through here.
You have done this well. For too long I think authorities neglected war vets post-combat needs. One possible change needed...at that [knarred] (knarled?) rotting

    Thanks, Sankey. Gnarl, Gnarred, Knar, Knarled, it drove me nuts. But you are right, should be knarled, or could be, I don't know, or is it gnow? (;-) Yard.

This is a great sensory image: "She stood slowly on stiff legs as the magazine slipped from her lap onto the floor bending several pages backward."
You have introduced a new plot: "That, and comfort ... not exist." The readers will experience a roller coaster of emotions. Great work.
