This villanelle, Time Like a Butterfly, has the proper formatting and and reminds the readers that time flies and marches on while we are in mark time.

Superb. I wish I had a six for this. I like the refrain: while we, armed with nets, tried and tried to betray. what a killer line. A seize the day poem that uses a unique and effective metaphor. I'm headed to fan you!

Thank you so much for your kind words. The line you refer to is the one I have heard is most confusing. What does a butterfly net have to do with time and how can we catch time in a net anyway? I am so glad you see what I was saying. Thank you.

There is an uneven syllable count in some lines here and the iambic meter is also missing. I did, however enjoy the sentiments. Your villanelle may need some adjusting and if you refer to Dylan Thomas' poem you will learn how the meter helps the poem to flow, good luck, love Dolly x

Thank you. I will read his poem. Hopefully, someday, I will know more about this type of writing. Poetry is not my area but I love it when someone can really write with a poet's heart. Thank you.

This is an excellent Villanelle. You did a fantastic job. I think you will do very well in the competition.

Good luck and thanks for sharing your poem.

I'm not a poet so thank you for your kind words. I'm trying to learn a new way of writing. Any insight from you would be appreciated.

    My best advice. Read poems.
    Here and other places.
I like to read without looking at pictures.
See if the poet can move me with words.
look at Theodore Mcdowell work here on the site.
And Dolly's poems along with a few others. The words should speak to you.
    I'm more of a novelist.
