Now I have to ask, were you the boy or part of the class? This story shows backbone. I loved it and, being too smart for my own good as well lol, can relate to it. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Happy New Year.

What a lesson for every pre-teen in the good ole USA. No, I take that back.... in the world. When we are young we think we know so much more than any "old person" could possibly know, but in the end it's not about winning. It's about choosing the right battles and as you said, "Just don't start one." Loved it, Lance!

This is an outstanding story both in terms of the quality of the writing and the subject. What a brave child. Foolish, but brave. I only regret that my stock of six star ratings is empty.

I enjoy reading your prose. Your grandpa was teaching you about women when you were six years old and you are still obsessed with them now.

Did you read the Encyclopedias? Elon Musk said that he read a condensed version of the British Encyclopedias. He is a genius you know.

Well done.

A fine story, Lance. This has the flavor of the sitcom, "Young Sheldon". I don't mean that disparagingly. I think they do a good job depicting an adolescent genius, and I think you did a good job with young Lance. You, or your persona, was insufferable. It sounds like you were the bane of all the campus bullies, who didn't know quite how to overpower you. And you ... in your own way were pretty much the bully with your classmates ... as well as your teacher.

All of this, of course, makes for entertaining reading. It should do well in the contest.

Aren't you a teacher now? How would you handle a sixth grader with exactly the same posture as the narrator in this memoir? I guess at least something was learned. There seems to be some anachronism as Google wasn't invented until 1996 and I'm guessing you're older than 26.
Fun story. But I feel so sorry for what teachers are dealing with today.
Best wishes in the contest!
