Unfortunately, you hit the nail on the head. The direction we're going with all of this worrying about the environment is getting out of hand. I'm all for doing things to help out. I want the generations of tomorrow to have a safe world. But, what good will that safe world be to them if we've lost everything we believe in and gave up our freedom? They'll have nothing to call their own. They'll end up being able to do only what the government will allow them to do. They'll be dependent on other countries to produce everything they possess. They won't have to get up in the morning to go to work. No one will be working because the government pays for everything. This way they control what you do and where you go. It won't be that big of a deal though because there won't be anywhere to go. Good luck with the contest!

It is indeed an honor to get such a supportive review from a fellow patriot. Thank you for your thoughts. People like us are frustrated as we can't understand why so many of our fellow Americans do not see what is happening. This prompt gave me the opportunity to tell a new audience of my fears.

I think this is the best car archive story contest entry that I have read so far. Good luck in the contest. Stay safe and stay healthy in the new year.

Earl, I can't tell you my name, but we are brothers. I will someday buy you a cold one in PA. God Bless and may the New Year be fair and profitable to you and yours.

A well written, thought-provoking little essay. I'm not sure I agree with the 'attack on freedom' perspective in the author's notes, as hybrid and electric vehicles are becoming much more ubiquitous, as is reliable public transport that doesn't rely on fossil fuels.

Nevertheless, it's an interesting thing to think about: without cars, do we lose personal freedom? What does that say about the millions of people around the world who don't have cars, either because they choose not to, or they can't afford them? In places like Japan, car ownership is comparatively rare, as public transport (again, things like electric trains) is so affordable and reliable.

If the no cars = no freedom angle is one you want the reader to consider more, I think the story itself needs to more strongly articulate why that is. As it is, although the language itself is great, and you clearly have a strong grasp of the English language, the actual narrative of the story could probably be a little more engaging. There's not really a beginning, middle, or end, which is admittedly quite difficult with 300 words, so it reads more like a little essay.

The lack of clear narrative aside, the language is fantastic, and the little images of your grandparents are wonderfully evocative. Awesome work!

Haha you've misunderstood my political stance, friend. Nevertheless I'm not here to review political leanings one way or the other, I'm simply reviewing your writing, which is great, as well as perspective presented in the story, which I didn't find quite as compelling. My personal stance on the matter is irrelevant; I'm playing devil's advocate to show that there's a lot of nuance not captured here, likely because of the word limit. Thank you for your service, and all the best with your writing!

Excellent op-ed, author. We may disagree about who the elites are, but the end result will still be the same.

One word is spelled incorrectly three times, Volkswagon (Volkswagen)

I get 302 words, so it's an easy thing to eliminate two words.

Wishing you great luck with the voters. :))

You would think I could spell that right! Thanks for helping an old man with his spelling! And, for your word count. May the New Year be fun and happy for you and yours. Take your car and go somewhere special before that can't be done!
