This brought memories back from my childhood, Waking up with ice frosting on the inside of my bedroom window. Before the days of central heating, before thick featherdown duvets. A time when beds were piled with blankets and socks were the main night time attire. I think we have been spoilt in the this modern world we are living in now. Thank you for sharing this, and bringing back some lovely memories :) xx

This is a very good lesson you have written about and you had so much to be grateful for. You used very good descriptive words and I love the imagery you chose to go with your words. Blessings, Teri

JLR.
This is a long story poem. It seems like a prose poem or stream of consciousness writing. You get clear image of the setting s how fast thinking you were. It is good you picked up the lesson on gratitude.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Happy New Year
Joan

Yes my friend. Gratitude, not only in making a humble man, but one sympathetic to the trials of other men, and the world....and and the plight of others, as oneself.
Have a Happy New Year.
My best wishes.

We in Oregon are having snow and temps in the 20's - so cold and the door to my apartment has no weather-stripping so a sluice of freezing air comes whistling down the hallway. I spend a lot of time in bed reading. Your writing made me feel a reverse deja vu. It is well-written and reads easily - good luck in the contest.

Thanks Sherry, we have daughter and son in law in the suburbs of Portland, they are vacationing in Orlando to give themselves a bit of a respite from the crazy weather in the NW. Bundle up and enjoy an extra mug of a hot toddy for the body, happy New Year?

That is a mighty fine poem for this contest, good luck. The imagery must be good because I could feel the cold! It was brave of you to get up and do what you did, and now be grateful for the things that worked. In February of 2021 in Texas, we had some cold like that, but our electric grid failed, and we learned what gratitude was, by not having electric service. Very good job.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I now live in Texas and yes, cold is a relative term. I am just getting comfortable and my native Texas friends have winter coats on. LOL I grew up in Northern Illinois and it does get cold there. I remember a couple of winters when the inside electric outlets had frost on them and the heat was still working. Good luck with the contest.

You've shared an interesting piece of your earlier life in this free verse poem, JLR. You were indeed fortunate that the power was still working so you could make use of the electric heat you had. Well written. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

Very different and very vivid. You certainly brought your memory to life for me, as we do not have cold like that where I live. Interesting and wonderful that your lesson learned was gratitude, and not a feeling of self-pity. Beautifully written, in a conversational style, which suits it well. Best wishes for your entry.

Wendy, we all must make the best of what life tosses at us. We only have one shot at this life and we may as well make it a good aim at success!

A delightful story, recalling this particular harsh cold day, living myself most of its written occurrences, adding my personal of having to go outside to get to the kitchen. What a feeling. I enjoyed the memory: thanks
