LOL This definitely proves the point that Truth is Stranger Than Fiction. You have written the story very well and it holds interest all the way through. Of course, as a cat person myself, the picture drew me in immediately. I can imagine that picture has turned out to be a good investment. You did not mention the year the painting was purchased, but I would like to think you did very well with the decision to acquire it. :-)

I bought it about 20 years ago. My wife died 3 years ago, and my will gives the painting to Kirby. It is his story as much as mine. Thank you for reading and reviewing. Terry.

A great post and a pleasure to read. It also is quite timely in how it points out preconceived perception. Of course, two guys admiring an Andy Warhol painting would have to be gay. Good luck in your contest. Bill

This is great. Your straight forward writing is a joy, emphasis on straight. I don't really know art but know what I like. I like your story.

Cheers,

John

That's strange. I know I reviewed this story not so long ago and it shows that I have written nothing. I did ask in my previous / first review of this story whether you got the blue cat Andy Warhol artwork valued. Oh well, I enjoyed reading and review once again :-) Best of luck.

Wonderful, wonderful. One of my biggest pet peeves is people with preconceived notions about people. Who cares what sexuality a person is born with and does it matter? Do men have to look at cowboys to be real men - then see Brokeback Mountain. It might not be totally comfortable
to a heterosexual... oh, my- my soapbox is showing. This is a delightful story!!

No, it should not have mattered. Presumptions, presumptions! Love the true story... You told it in a casual, almost chatty manner that drew me in. As prejudice is often defined as "a hostile opinion ...". I am not sure it is ever harmless. I do get your point in this instance.

What a hoot!
Amazing, the impression some people get from us, after just a casual meeting.
A really neat Warhol, afraid to ask what you paid, but definitely worth whatever.
Same as, old retired guy, amateur author and sometimes poet, just like writing and expressing myself.

Thanks, irish, this story took place in 1995 and since my wife died three years ago and we had no children, when I die, my will provides that the Warhol goes to my buddy Kirby. Terry.

This is a cute story, and an interesting commentary on how others perceive us and make assumptions. I'm glad you were able to negotiate an acceptable price. I've made a cople of editing/proofing notes below.

I asked the guy working at the mall what happened to the blue cat artwork by Andy Warhol?" -- either eliminate the question mark and closing quotation mark, or write . . . mall, "What . . .

surprise !" -- extra space

That is a great story. It's amazing how people judge others with very little to go on. In reading the story, I was sure your friend was going to find the same painting (a copy) hanging in that shop.

Hi there,

This is a nice piece, flows well.

"You are not going to believe this. I took Jodi to that antique mall on Saturday to show her the Andy Warhol we saw. But I could not find it.

I asked the guy working at the mall what happened to the blue cat artwork by Andy Warhol?"- when beginning a new paragraph in dialogue there should be opening speech marks at the beginning of each new paragraph (although only one set of closing ones at the very end of the dialogue)

guy came back later and bought it to surprise his young lover!"- you actually need two sets of closing speech marks at the end here. one set to close off the entire dialogue and one set to finish the mall worker's dialogue.

It's a nice closing to the piece.
