"Christmas with a Bang" is a story told with a sharp memory that clearly describes a rather sad celebration. But the ending brings a new light filled with humor that makes a reader share laughter.

It was a peculiar place. Most of the vets regarded another tomorrow as a day closer to going home, or oblivion.
Thanks for stopping by with a most appreciated affirmation. Fantasist

LOL! A similar event occurred at Di-Ann in '70 when the CO had a plywood shower, shitter, (shallow septic tank too) sink basin with light bulb built by the good old boys from Kentucky. It wasn't bad, except only certain persons had a key and lock for the lock ring to secure the door. No, burning shit for that crew.
It didn't take long for two concussion grenades taped together with a cigarette fuse (or so I'm told) to have been secreted past the locked door through a vent. It was amazing a singular mortar managed to make a direct hit on the shower club without a single injury. It was never rebuilt.

There so many episodes of this type, some more serious than others with people hurt or killed.
One was when some of the guys that hated being prorogued into attending one of those terrible amateur hour USO shows tossed a smoke grenade onto the stage and shouted grenade. It was dummy for training but frightened the performers enough that they never came back.

This is very well told. It's amazing what people can do in times that would generally be considered extremely tough. Well done on evoking a very interesting atmosphere here. Thanks for sharing

Excellent story my friend and I love the way you write! You seem to be one of the ones who "has it like that!" The storyline was very captivating and held my attention throughout the piece and the characters interact nicely together;-)
Thanks for sharing and many blessings to you and your family this Christmas;-)

Lady MM: Enchantingly alliterative, so appropriate for a poet. One might expect some fine wordsmithing from such.
Thank you for the time you took to follow this post and the stellar affirmation.
