Hi Yvonne,
I think poor black cats have been given a label that won't come off. But they are wonderful cats. We had a black cat named Smoky when I was a kid. He died when I was in Grade 7. But what a great pet! He'd sleep with me under the quilts, a real buddy.
Our son, Luke, and his wife, Leslie, took in a stray black cat. It took a long time for his trust to grow, but finally he stepped through the sliding glass doors for good. He was very lucky, and probably would have ended up frozen to death under someone's deck. He is also a nice cat.
It's true that cats make their own luck. They decide to stay or not. People think they own them, but it's the cats who own us!
Great entry for the Superstition event in Animal Crackers! I enjoyed all the superstitious nonsense that people believe in. I especially liked the bit about the horseshoe... " A horseshoe should be hung with the open part up or the luck will drain out of it." I'll remember that one!
Thanks for sharing!
Hugs,
Kimbob

I've always had at least one black cat. If you've been reading about PC, you know how smart he is. He is my soul mate and sleeps with me with his head on my shoulder. Thank you for a wonderful review. Merry Christmas!

Yvonne,
I totally agree with this charming and smart critter. Superstitions are nonsense. These things were all stated in a beautiful way and presented nicely. It's clear PC has a clear head about these things and knows how to express herself. *smile*

This cute. I love that your cat had the catnip scared out of him, but hey, that rocking chair makes me a little nervous too, unless the wind was blowing. I had a neighbor who had a chair that rocked and one day she swore she saw the lady who owned it before she died sitting in in until she faded away.

I wouldn't be surprised. We once had a dog that watching something going across the ceiling and then watched it coming back. Took about twenty minutes total. She did this every night at the same time. Spooky. Thanks, Beth.

Hello Yvonne.
You listed many stereotypical labels for what brings bad luck in your story. We've owned two black cats and didn't have a problem with them. They weren't superstitious either. I'm happy I'm not superstitious. I have enough peculiarities to deal with. HAHAHA

Me, too. I've always had at least one black cat. They usually have the sweetest nature.

Our two black cats were wonderful.

Thank you for sharing this club entry with us. I enjoyed reading. A cat we had for over 20 years had problems with crystals in her bladder. The vet told us, Chessie couldn't go outside any longer. Outside is where she liked to be about half the time. She figured out that if she got on the back of the rocking chair, it would go back and she could reach the handle on the screen door, push it down and sneak outside. One smart lady.

Wow! That is smart! I had a cat that lived to be over 20. I also had a cat that had bladder problems and had to have his bladder "expressed" periodically, and I had a diabetic cat that had to have insulin injections twice a day. My pharmacist didn't believe me when I told him the cat would hop up on the cabinet and turn his back for the shot.

LOL The two boys I have now, putting their flea medicine on them is taking my life in my own hands. LOL
-
I know what you mean. You'd think I was putting battery acid on them, the way they act.

I loved the picture of PC, damommy or sorry about that, PC, I really loved your picture. This was a great article about superstitions and how it affects animals in your world. I enjoyed the variety of things addressed but mostly the rocking chair, rocking with no one in it. Mmm. And I liked the horseshoe because I have often asked that question myself-does the horse limp? Very well done and greatly enjoyed.

Dear PC,
As one black cat to another. Those people who think we bring bad luck if we cross their path have got it wrong. It all depends on which side we are coming from. From the right is OK from the left (sinister in Latin is said to be bad luck but if two humans are walking towards each other and we cross in between them we are bringing good luck to one and bad luck to the other! What a load of rubbish!
The answer to the rocking question is Alfred Hitchcock. He started it all in that Psycho thing.

The rocking chair superstition started long before Psycho. My grandmother would never allow anyone to rock an empty rocking chair. Thanks, Paddy, for the review.

I have not heard of that tradition it must be American. It is kind of understandable though
Comment from Gloria ....
PC you are one smart cat. Don't you know you reign supreme by getting people to keep you, just on account of because you have soft fur, and know how to make your servants laugh?
Great job with this Yvonne. It's good to see PC in top order. :)

Oh, PC, you are so smart! Thank you for reminding me about all those many superstitions that people have. And I can understand the comment about the rocking chair. There's an expression: "more nervous than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs." Hope you never get stuck in one!

Excellent choice of superstitions to write about. PC is right not to heed those superstitions. I like his assertion that people should feel lucky to see a black like his marvelous self. And, yes, we're lucky to have cats choose to live with us. I enjoyed the humor in this. PC is one smart cat! judi
