Congratulations on your win. I can so relate to this. I've never left a baby but my husband is so absent-minded, we've had to pull the car over often because people have honked at our car on the road to tell us keys were sticking out of the trunk. We've also had to look for wallets, keys, and pets. I love him anyway. Thanks for the story.

I am so glad that your story is fictional. I know they leave babies in cars when it is hot. That is sad news. Many of these have died and others have made it out okay. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you very much Rosemary for your thoughtful review. Unfortunately it is based on truth - my sister-in-law did this with her newborn! After six years of marriage she absent-mindedly forgot she had a baby!

Hi Valda, thank you so much for reviewing. Much appreciated. Yes, names changed to protect the guilty (not me!). Lol. So many reviewers have mentioned that they have done very similar. It seems to be not at all uncommon!

Excellent entry for the
FAMILY STORY FICTION writing prompt contest.

It's a stunning and dramatic fictional story in its entirety, compelling in structure and simple presentation. You followed the rules of the contest well, as far as I can tell.

I like the story about the forgetful brother and sister. I think it's funny that they all had names starting with J....James, Jane, and baby Jasper,
It could have turned into a nightmare.

Good luck in the contest.

Interesting story and good contest entry. I actually identified with the forgotten baby -- as it happened to me more than once. I had 2children and then had an 'unexpected' baby when the youngest was 8. Fortunately, I typically forgot my little one at home. For instance, I would be in the grocery story 5 minutes away, shopping, remember I needed baby food -- and at that point, remember baby!! I would rush home and Dee would be still sleeping soundly, never knowing she had been momentarily forgotten!! Life has a way of sometimes becoming overwhelming. Enjoyed your story. ann

Thanks so much Ann. Judging by my reviews, many people have done this or a version of it! The one in question had been married for six years and was a very laid back mother at the best of times. Nearly all the details are fictional though.

I could have been the woman in this story, Wendy! Well, I never forgot a newborn baby, but when I went back to work when my kids were young teens, I often forgot to pick them up at the library or at school if they'd stayed late! At least once a teacher brought one of them home. That was embarrassing! This is a well-written story. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much Judy. It appears that this is far more common than I had thought - so many are relating to this story. Lol. My sister-in-law had been married for six years when this happened, so she was just not used to having a baby around. hanks too for your good wishes.

I have fortunately never been in this position and my babies reminded me all too often of my responsibility, that I didn't ever forget I had them! As for my possessions, well that is a different matter and I sometimes forget my coat or gloves, glasses and keys! Ha ha ha, you made me smile here with your fun write Wendy, love Dolly x

No, I can't guess who! But despite the genetic absent-mindedness, both James and Jane have lots of other wonderful qualities that their spouses overlook their tendency to forget things. Entertaining story. Best wishes in the contest!

Thanks so much Helen for your lovely review and good wishes. ( Yes, David and his very laid back sister. Not me!). All details fictionalised, but both events happened.

Hilarious--well, now, not then--you must have been frantic--I'm astounded that both of these events occurred! I peg this as a winner. Two treats for the price of one!

Lol. Thanks so much. (My husband and his sister!) I just go with the flow, as to what he will lose next. Details are fiction and my sister-in-law has now died, but did successfully look after two daughters after an initial bumpy start to parenthood.

So cute!! I would go to church for Sunday School and take our boys. My husband didn't so we took both cars. After school, I always visited and my husband didn't. I looked around for Steven he was in the third grade and I figured he went home with his Dad. When I got home, there was no Steven. He'd got forgotten.

"That will make a good story for tonight," laughed Annie. & "You and your briefcase could have been on the local news on TV!" laughed Marcus. (Laughed isn't a speech tag, so period after 'tonight' and capital 'L' on laughed in both sentences.)
