This is a grim scene and there is nothing romantic about cold and ice except when the sun shines on the scene to make it sparkle, a fine six line poem, love Dolly x

Winter officially begins in a week, but for many, it already is grim outside. Many thanks for sharing my poem, Dolly.

Interesting rhyme scheme. That's a new one for me. Nature is capable of being nice, but she wasn't very nice to the people of Kentucky just the other day.

I am pleased I could introduce you too new rhyme scheme, Paul. Browning?s is fun to play with. Yes, Nature was horrible to those people in Kentucky.

I thought I heard the meters at work when I was reading it. I also like the Browning rhyming scheme. I recently wrote many poems about happiness of seeing snow coming so my husband and I can go and do some cross country skiing. Our prayer has been answered. We had one foot of snow last Friday and we have gone skiing three times so far. We will tomorrow again before it all melts away on Wednesday.

Well done.

I am delighted you enjoyed my poem?s rhythm and rhyme. Maybe if I skied I?d like Winter as you do. Have fun on the slopes.

It is all how a person looks at it. Destructive, beauty, pleasure. All in the eyes of the beholder. Well done. Best to you in the contest. Thanks for sharing

This is an interesting philosophical question. I don't know about fair, but it sure is beautiful to see. I admit, I don't like being cold and all that, and I did like it more when I wasn't alone. Saturday we had freezing rain and ice coated everything. Sunday it warm, the ice had melted and it was 50 degrees. So you're right. Winter can be nice, if not fair Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for sharing and praising my poem, Mary. You are more open-minded about Winter than I am. If we had an ice storm this early, I would still be cursing.

You are welcome. I don't enjoy it as much now that I have no one to help with the outside duties. I'm afraid of falling again, but it's still beautiful.

This poem is severe but leaves some room at the end for the reader to consider if nature really is nice, even though severe at times. Good poetry makes you think, as this one does. You remind me that I do not need to close a poem off perfectly and neatly. Sometimes, it's better to suggest or invite the reader to consider a response. Well done and good luck!

Many thanks for sharing my poem and your comments. I agree that often it is wise to invite the reader to consider a response. Many reviewers think I should be more "nice" in my thoughts about Winter.

I like the unusual rhyme scheme in this and the metre sets out a nice rhythm. I also enjoyed the gentle humour in your complaint. Nature can play nice, but she sure shows her mean streak in winter.

A very good poem for a six-line contest, good luck. I will not try to convince you nature is nice. She is not. She has no remorse. I think when nature is nice, it's just an oversight on her part. Good job. Gets my vote.

You would not convince me Winter is nice even if you tried. I am thinking of those poor people who live in Kentucky and just had their homes destroyed by a rare December tornado.

"What's fair about deep snow and ice,"
That's quite a question you ask in your well written poem. We may not like the cold and ice, but it is part of nature's plan to give the plants a time to rest and be ready for spring.

You are welcome. I am glad I can just stay in out of the cold most of the time.
