' The Day of Infamy ' , is an extremely well-written and heart-wrenching piece. Penned with craft and skill. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Beautifully penned tribute to what is now a dying breed. So few heroes left--they fought the good fight, and those who were fortunate enough to come home have passed on, largely. Loved your poem. It brought tears to my eyes. Especially:

"But now, it seems, so few are left
to mark the sacrifice
that left a nation sore bereft
for all who paid the price."

God bless every one of them!

Thank you. Sadly, the number of people who care are diminishing, and one day, Pearl Harbor will have no meaning. Already, the young people don't know what it is.

My granddaughter (A Junior in high school) mentioned they discussed it this week in history. My seventh, sixth and second graders have not a clue (from school) about these heroes. I share... I heard some forty veterans were able to attend the Pearl Harbor observances this weekend. --

Only forty. The numbers have dwindled drastically. Soon, there will none. How sad that children are not learning this history.

You chose an apt title for your poem, which conveys a message about
that day none of us should ever forget. Rhyming and meter are excellent.
(Note: In stanza 1, "am" (I'm), present tense, doesn't work with the rest of the verbs, which are past tense.)

Thank you for celebrating the Greatest Generation. It was a beautiful tribute. I often say it will be a sad day when all WW2 vets are gone. The only way to see them will be in a photo. That's why we need to shake their hand and or acknowledge them while the few are still here with us. Bless you.

Absolutely! Already, young people have no idea about that time, or what Pearl Harbor Day means to a lot of us. Thank you for reviewing, and for your great comments.

The saddest thought for me is that despite all the lost lives that resulted from the hatred, greed of ambition. The animus resulting from perceived hatred of people who had no clue of how the other side felt or thought. Those conditions exist today and we are all at risk of some thoughtless ruler deciding that no longer will they wait to strike at the heart of those on the other side. Man does not learn any of the real lessons of history.

It seems they never learn. The world has gone crazy, and this country has changed beyond my wildest nightmares. Prayer is all we have depend on.

A befitting poetic tribute to those who fought for their motherland, the free world, for democracy and liberty.

"Salute the flag and bow your head for those who are no more."

What a lovely way to end this poem.

I was about 6 years old when this happened. Momma grabbed me up in the rocking chair and sobbed her heart out for the men who died that day and what that day meant to America. We were at war. I was ten when the war ended. Good work, Yvonne. Nancy:)

Thank you, Nancy. I grew up in all the talk and mourning. It seems so fresh to me, even today.

Yvonne,

Absolutely! It really is a day that lives in infamy. The very idea of it all still staggers my brain. And the idea that some think it's okay to just suddenly bomb a whole town of unsuspecting people (though I realize they were aiming at destroying equipment and war goods).

This is a beautiful ode to those men and women. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this club entry with us. I wonder if our Cancel Culture will attempt to believe that Pearl Harbor didn't happen either or that it's racists too. Sorry, I hate seeing our history destroyed. If it's bad, it will help us remember not to make that mistake again.

I agree. Probably, no one's thought to destroy this monument. It may be a matter of time. So sad to see our history destroyed. The world has gone crazy. I've outlived my time.
