There is no greater pain than to have to bury a child, no matter their age. But it does hurt when the child never even had a chance to experience life at all. Good luck with the contest. This poem brought tears to my eyes.

Your poem describes a heart-stopping moment with great poignancy. Surely, there can be no greater grief than the loss of an infant child. A fine entry to the contest. I hope it does well.

Did you recently lose someone you loved? It sounds like the person was young and never got to fulfilled his/her dream. It was the saddest lost for everybody in your family.

Your picture and words pair perfectly Mystery Author, though this is such a sad poem. You did a great job. Your few words accurately tell the story. I like the bit of end rhyme.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

This one made me tear up! You have made excellent use of your fifteen words to convey a message about the devastation of the loss of a child. The artwork . . . !

Excellent entry for the Short Poem writing prompt contest. You have a heartbreaking meaningful message in a few words, that is harder than most people think. I like the presentation too but it's very sad.
suggestion to improve the flow....
unprepared grieving hearts
hold on to babe's last breath -
life so short, dreams unfulfilled ...
saddest loss of all
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for reviewing, and for your excellent suggestion. Unfortunately this poem had to be no more than fifteen words, to meet the contest rules, so that is quite limiting.

The pic is heartbreaking enough. You short poem completes the devastation. This is an experience I hope never to know. I found nothing to adjust or tweak. Well Written, Well Done.

I think losing a little one would be the worst kind of grief one could suffer, no memories to treasure, a future unfulfilled is positively devastating, Beautifully and compassionately written, good luck, blessings Roy

That is the worst of all, a death of a baby before he/she has had a chance of life. You're right, no words can express such grief. Your short poem tells us a lot. Well done and good luck! :)) Sandra xx
