This is a well written poem as a tribute to the young people who laid down their lives.I always marvel at your ability to rhyme do effortlessly.
I do wonder often if it was worth sacrificing these young lives.

'Crosses' is an excellent poem written right on time for
Veterans Day. There is rhyming but there is also written lines that do not
follow the same rhyming meter or count. This makes your free poetry writing captivating for the reader with a specific planned message relating to young men giving their lives for their country. The honour involved, the sadness and pain experienced by loved ones. The questions asked and unanswered. You have used your poetic license along with your exceptional gift and choice of vocabulary to create a very unique poem. Worthy of its rating. All the best.

This is a beautiful tribute to those who lost their lives defending their country. Many children have never met their fathers. Mothers no matter how old they are, still pine for their children, for they are all somebody's child that is buried under the sod. Great job, Roy!! God bless!

Hi Roy,

One of your very best! War is such an all consuming thing as WWII was and all war is. I am in awe of your insight into how young lives are the ones sacrificed with families striped of their lives. Yes, the nirvana that never comes...

"The prophets sing of worthwhile goals,
nirvana gained by worthy souls.
Explain all that, when mothers weep,
who know their sons no joy will reap."

I can still hear the loss of the voices silenced in the trees, on the wind that had their young lives silenced by the lofty goals of men who notch their belts with "victories" won. It is amazing how well one can hear that silence!

But on the flip side, I must say...what if we did not win WWII? It would be a terribly different world today.

Beautiful poem with such an amazing image to enhance :))

Always,
Senyai

Yes, this poem was concerned more with armistice day which is what 11/11 is all about, most Americans seem to have missed that, your country came in 1918. In the treaty of Versailles we made the Germans pay badly, my country was their at the beginning and lost a lot of young lives that we could ill afford to lose, the allies flogged the Germans and their economy so badly they had hyper inflation, and many starved to death, a lot of anger was nurtured then, We started WW2. Thank you Senyai, blessings Roy

You have a very valid point, Roy. I never thought of the events this way leading to WWII. :))

Spot-on for Veterans' Day: 11/11 in USA! Is it the same day as yours? Stunning verse, haunting, powerful imagery--excruciating to contemplate the enormity of their loss.

The image is unusual and it looks like a sculpture Roy. A fine tribute to remembrance day today as we mourn those who died to keep our country free of terrorism and crazy leaders, those invasions fought back with the might of soldiers and many of them sadly died in the battle. Fine rhymes here Roy, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

The futility of war. The bloodshed, loss, grief ... and wars never resolve anything, bring neither justice nor closure. Fortunately God has HIS plan for righteousness, and I am looking forward to the reign of Jesus - in peace.

Great minds think alike - I wrote one too. It's raining so hard we had to attend Remembrance Day inside this year. What a senseless waste of young lives. The British cost us so many young men through their bad reading of maps. Your story/poem grabbed me and I do believe the ghosts of young me long dead linger in the trees. Thanks for sharing friend. K xx
